but I LIKE IT A LOT. i bet it looks better in person.
just change the exhaust, fender eliminator, miroors, wheels, etc. and it will look sick.
the only thing about this bike is that the headlight portion is not as proportional as the rest of the bike like our 05-07 CBRs.
anyways, i like it, but will not be trading my REPSOL for one.

The exhaust is hideous, the license plate/rear signals are Fugly, the turn signal mirrors belong on a touring bike....
The reason Honda pulled the pics is because of the overwhelming negative feedback they got after they released the pictures.

All those parts listed ABOVE. I usually changed right of way on my bike.
I do alot of track days with my bike,so
I'm much more interested on How this bike will handle over any previous and current literbikes out there.
looking at this bike I see RC212V DNA all over it.
I like to see at least 175-180HP
The 2008 1000RR looks like it went on a diet.

The bike profile resembles the current MotoGP bike, but thats only cosmetic. The motor won't be some all new nugget of innovation, it will be another iteration of the current motor.
They didn't even bother to change the damn wheels.
Honda screwed up in MotoGP this year by building a bike that can't compete, an they further screwed up when they built this "thing" for 08.
You see RC212 DNA? Thats nothing to brag about considering the current MotoGP season.
I see a disaster. The same disaster I have been painfully watching the whole damn race season.

Its a Honda...of course its gonna handle/perform great etc.... Therefore, what ends up making most of us buy one bike over the other is the aesthetics. This bike is one of the ugliest I've seen. It has no symmetry. For example:
-The tail is too small compared to the body
-The exhaust is too bulky compared to the overall 'diet' the bike went on
-The rounded profile of the nose doesn't match the sharp boxy angles of the
side fairings
-Overall the bike has really sharp angles and the wavy lines of the headlights
conflicts with that tremendously
Need I go on??? I actually drew a crude pen drawing today for one of my co-workers to try and show how ugly this bike is and my drawing actually looked better than the real bike. We should all be extra happy we have our Repsols...I know I am.

I have no intention of trading my 05 on anything, not to mention any improvements these days are truly incremental, huge leaps are very rare now. My bike is making 156 very reliable hp, the suspension is set-up the way i want it, it does everything I can ask of it and more. And itlooks awesome, I love these bikes! About the only thing that'd tempt me would be a RC211 rep.

You make some good points...definitely should see it in person, but whatever the hell that thing is in those pics it needs to get thrown into a pit of lava!
Lets face it, sometimes bike designers f*ck up. I like the look of the new R1 but its not as nice as the 06 IMO. Maybe the look of the 08 Fireblade will grow on some folks but I think I speak for a lot of people on this forum when I say I fell in love with the Repsol at FIRST sight:D

They don't need to make it look like anything specifically. What they did do is make the exhaust and the damn mirrors look just like the GSXR, and the license plate/ass end look just like the R-6, and the nose is too damn flat for the rest of the bike, none of which is appealing. They took one of the best looking bikes out there and MADE it ugly. Wait to see it in person? Thats a joke. If a picture makes me gag the real thing isn't miraculously going to be a thing of beauty.
The designers obviously had a mental lapse when it came to creativity. And those Gixxer mirrors on a MotoGP looking bike is one of the most ridiculous changes they could have made.
Add to the collection? If you can afford to "collect" bikes, then do yourself a favor and get an R-1 or a Ducati.
On second thought, the Ducatis aren't that bad looking.
A little harsh? I've been NICE.

It looks weird because the bottom plastics are black and not noticable and makes it look like it only has the front part of the fairing and no sides. The turn signals on the morrors are overdue but that doesn't mean they had to buy the same mirrors as Suzuki. They could have used the ones from the VFR or whatever the semi sport/touring model is (Ducati style). You can allready see the new seperated tail light at the dealer (it's with the turn signals now). There's some new 07's with them allready. They are following the small side GP style exhaust trend also. It looks ok but I prefer the rear exhaust, but dual (yamaha style) and not single. I prefer the inegrated rear turn signals on the tail that Kawi' has done over the old fashioned ones that stick out. If they just paint "ALL" the plastics the same color or atleast make the sides visable, you guys would like it. I have a picture but i'm not sure if it's ok to upload it.

No, it's a pic of the '08 1000RR from a Europe web site. It's basically similar to the 600 with the tail lamp lowered to the tag and turn signal mounts and the exhaust is a small GP style on the right like Yamaha and Suzuki I think. It looks like it's naked sorta like the Yamaha YZF but it has full plastics, just doesn't cover as much engine and only the front and the sides of the front are colored. The sides from the tank back are black, so it looks like they are not there (naked bike).

I have it saved at work, so not till monday. Weird shaped exhaust in the side GP style. Color scheme is weird. The colored part changes vertically instead of diagnaly. So from the tank gas lid vertically down and then forward it's colored then averything back from that verticle line is black. So it looks like there is a weird partial front fairing only but it still goes around the engine. Seems like the trend is for less plastics to cool the engine off. The mirrors look exactly the same as the GSXR. The rear end is the same as the 600, no longer on the rear seat cowl but with the turn and tag lights. This will make it difficult to se fender eliminators.
If they do do another Repsol version, it should be a 800 since that is the currrent Moto GP size. But it should be a special edition. Maybe light weight forged wheels and MotoGP style exhaust. That would be worth an extra grand or two.

Look closely, seems like there is a tail light in the tail. I like the angle view a lot. I agree, straight on and from the side. It isn't too great, but a fender eliminator, and exhaust can greatly help. If she's a handling beast like the 06-07 with more power/lighter or both.. You'll find me at the dealership filling out paperwork.
goracer
September 27th, 2007, 07:59 PM
Yeah that's almost exactly the pics I had. Allthough i'm not sure why the trend for black lower and under fairings instead of all one color or two bright colors. I didn't want to give the exhaust away previously. It is a shorty GP style but if you look at the shape its flat. That should help keeping the width down and also keep it off your leg (and passengers leg).
Rear fender eliminator - Look again, the rear brake light is not on the eat fairing. Instead it is intigrated with the tag plate and tuen signals. A fender eliminator kit woul have to include the brake light and turn signals.
The mirrors look "exactly" the same as Suzuki. Why didn't they use the ones from the interceptor (Ducati style)?
Props for them adding seperate high beams. More lights equals more safety. Allthough they could have also done dual beam instead of one sided low beams. I guess HID's are still too expensive but that would be excellent for a Repsol edition.

I like the silver frame on the 07 Repsol better then the black frame on my 05. I saw a black swing arm for cheap but I don't want my bike invisible. I like the aluminum showing. I wonder how the aftermarket will handle the exhaust?
Notice how the stock exhaust is molded to be a continuation of the plastics... take away the hideous shape of the stock exhaust, and you're left with some incomplete looking body-work.
Will be interesting to follow.
And (DAMMIT!) why do they always redo the CBR's the year after I buy mine??

* Intake valves feature double-spring design for optimum performance at high rpm.
* Intake ports use new shot-peening technology that improves power and torque characteristics.
* Cam-pulser location between the middle cylinders allows a narrower cylinder head and frame.
* Direct shim-under-bucket valve actuation system ensures high-rpm durability and allows 16,000-mile valve maintenance intervals.
* Forged-aluminum pistons with molybdenum coating for reduced friction.
* Lightweight nutless connecting rods.
* Iridium-tip spark plugs improve fuel combustion and performance.
* Dual Stage Fuel Injection (DSFI) (see Technology Section).
* 46mm throttle bodies feature Denso injectors with lightweight valving for faster reaction time and 12 holes per injector to optimize mixture atomization, combustion efficiency and power.
* Auto-enriching system is integrated into programmed fuel injection (PGM-FI) module, eliminating the need for a manual choke.
* New idle-air control valve (IACV) minimizes torque reaction and smoothes response to small throttle changes through gradual reductions of air and fuel intake when the throttle is opened and closed.
* New Ignition Interrupt Control system works with IACV and FI mapping to enhance driveability.
* Smaller and lighter ECU provides two 3-D fuel-injection maps for each cylinder and two 3-D ignition maps for cylinder pairs, creating ideal fuel-mixture and spark-advance settings for superb rideability.
* MotoGP-derived twin ram-air system allows high volume of cooler air to the 9.7-liter airbox for linear power delivery and incredible engine performance.
* Butterfly valves inside the ram-air ducts open and close depending on throttle opening and engine rpm for optimum performance.
* High-capacity radiator incorporates twin cooling fans and allows a more compact cowl for reduced drag coefficient.
* Maintenance-free automatic cam-chain tensioner.
* Starter gears located on the right side to produce narrow engine and increased lean angle.
* Unique slipper-clutch design uses a center-cam-assist mechanism for easier actuation. Unlike an ordinary slipper clutch where the pressure plate moves side to side, the Honda clutch moves both the center cam assist and the pressure plate to provide additional slipper effect.
* Nine-plate clutch is compact and tough, featuring durable friction- plate material.
* New extremely compact exhaust system incorporates a catalyzer and control valve in mid-muffler design that reduces rear bodywork size and significantly improves mass centralization, reducing roll and yaw inertia.
* Durable #530 O-ring - sealed drive chain.
Chassis/Suspension
* Lightweight Hollow Fine Die-Cast twin-spar aluminum frame utilizes MotoGP technology (see Technology Section).
* New aluminum subframe is lightweight and easily removed for ease of maintenance.
* MotoGP-derived Honda Electronic Steering Damper (HESD) (see Technology Section).
* 43mm inverted aluminum-slider Honda Multi-Action System (HMAS) cartridge front fork features spring preload and rebound and compression damping adjustability, and offers precise action and unparalleled rigidity (see Technology Section).
* Exclusive, MotoGP-derived Unit Pro-Link Rear Suspension (see Technology Section).
* Front brake system features radial-mounted four-piston calipers and 320mm floating discs, and rear brake system uses a 220mm disc with a single-piston caliper for exceptional stopping power.
* Front discs with 72 holes of four different diameters for lighter weight and improved feel.
* Super-light aluminum-alloy hollow-spoke wheels feature race-spec 3.5 x 17-inch front and 6.0 x 17-inch rear dimensions.
* Centrally mounted 4.7-gallon fuel tank is positioned low in the frame, increasing mass centralization and allowing a more compact design. This design positions the rider farther forward for optimum handling.

The gauge pod is pretty cool...
Now if HONDA would finally throw away the molds for the hideous 3 spoke wheels they keep saddling us with!!!
This bike is really growing on me - but I'm still keeping my REPSOL!

Give it a little time fellas... and maybe even a personal sighting of the bike before you write it off.
I agree, the front end will take some getting used to, but we haven't even seen it in person yet...
And if it makes significantly more horsepower... I can get over ugly!
:iagree: I like it! And i really like the narrow tail, instead of the previous fat a$$ they have had in the past for the vents to keep the tail cool because of the undertail exhaust. I am gonna buy one. . . Make a repsol replica out of it. . . and make all you negative people eat your words. All the ugly stuff on it is the same ugly stuff that is on all the stock bikes. And by the way, what were you all expecting them to turn out? :)

Sad part is most of the "improvements" have been offered by other manufacturers for up to 4 years. But we'll see how Honda gets them to work together. The higher rev limit should help the thing make more power and get around the track faster, but even that depends. Ti valves will be fun when it's time to replace them or if they use subpar materials like Suzuki first did on their k4 600. Double valve springs, HRC springs are singles. Forged lightweight pistons - hopefully they fix their engineering flaw from the 04-07. Coated pistons are nothing new, even the 04-07 pistons are coated. It's funny how they list all kinds of stuff that the 04-07 already have and make it sound like it's something big. Nutless rods? Been like that forever, auto enriching system? same thing. Butterfly valves inside ram air - called a flapper. dual injection - been there also. Shim under bucket, maintenance free cam chain tensioner, starter gear on the right side, all there already.
My overseas contacts have said the thing turns faster and better than anything else out there, so we'll see how that goes.

Well, for one thing replicas sell very well. And they are in the business of selling bikes. Produce what sells, right? Replicas are popular, do more of them. Period.
Second, there ARE other Honda Teams they could do replicas for. How about James Toseland's bike? He is quite the dominating rider in World Suprbike is he not? Honda can be proud of that team. And his bike is actually closer to a streetbike than a MotoGP bike anyway.
My point was there are very few replicas at all by anyone, not just Honda. Its a paint scheme, how about some choices other than the same old two color designs they have been wearing out for year?

This is really the gap that companies like Auctmart are filling, and in fact I was researching doing replica skins in carbon fiber to fill the racer and track day guys desires...the ones with deeper pockets anyway.
I haven't given up on the idea, but the manufacturers just can't justify a large regular production run of this type, except in unique situations like the Repsol Honda, or the Xerox Ducati truly limiited editions...etc.
I actuallly am investigating buying Auctmart, the company...we'll see how far that goes.
I could see a Repsol Replica again from Honda in '09...so hang in there.

But RR, its not an expensive production variable. Its purely cosmetics. Relatively easy, and considering they charge $500.00 more for it, they could afford to do them special order (a full auctmarks body kit isnt that much more).
Personally I feel that a race replica really should have some technical differences. The Repsols should have had some upgrades over the standard 1000rr. But since that isnt the case, and its just paint and graphics, they can do more of them even in very limited numbers and still make money.

With the '08 "limited" black/gray color scheme, there's no way that costs HONDA any extra money... they know from past experience that the black/gray is the color to have, so they're charging more for it.
People will pay more to have that color scheme - it's a smart business move on their part, I just don't see why they (supposedly) plan to limit the color scheme to 500 bikes.

I disagree - that's 50% of the reason I ride a liter bike. "Around town" riding is where the 1000 shines as a commuter bike. It's got the low end grunt to get up and away from stop lights, pass diesels on two lane back roads without downshifting, etc.
Two of my riding buddies have 600RR's and I always feel like I'm riding a toy when I'm on the little 600...

They cant be running it on the track cuz they are repaving it right now. They are shut down for winter. there already getting snow! Can you tell me where any literature is on the 08' at miller? cuz i think i'm gonna try to get one in may or so and i would like to see it in person ASAP!:)

When are they supposed to be released for sale? I talked to the Honda dealer here and they are not supposed to see any until April 08... :(
April is what one of my dealers told me...and he is placing a black on hold for me...
