I was curious If Radiator Guards are worth the $$ v/s weight? added look???
Does anyone have experience with using them? or are they really needed that much?
I may be answering my own question here but I frequent high speeds and know that the stock plastic guard will not help much if a good size rock flies up off the road into the radiator.....

i have seen them on some new bikes. your radiator will last for a good amount of years if you keep good maintanance.
i've had my 97 750 gixxer for 10 years....everything is orginal, since my wife bought it for me back on valentines day in 1997.
i changed the coolant once every 18 months or sooner, regardles of riding....i also blow air with my compressor from the inside to the outside to keep it free from rocks, bugs or anything that may damage the cooling cores every time i changed the oil and filter....i do the same thing with k&n air filter.
so far, my gixxer's radiator is working pretty good.
if you have the bucks, radiators protectors....can save some work as far as cleaning....my opinion.

I was out riding the 929 one day and I smelled coolant sitting at a stop light. Looked down and there was a small puddle forming under the bike.
I pulled into a gas station, looked under there, and found a tiny little twig (yes, a twig!) sticking out of the radiator. I guess it hit at the perfect angle, 'cause it worked itself right in there.
It was an easy repair, but sure was a pain in the ass having to send a friend for the trailer, load the bike up, remove the radiator, get it repaired, etc.
Even saying all that, I've never looked into a radiator guard. Never knew they existed for street bikes actually. I've got 'em installed on the dirt bike for obvious reasons...

FWIW - I've put around 60k miles on my 3 sport bikes (combined) and that's the only time I ever had a problem. I've actually never heard of anyone else puncturing a radiator on the street. Surprising, considering their location right behind the front wheel...
Post up a picture or link so we can see what you're talking about - I'm curious to see what the guard looks like.

Why beat around the bush? ;)
He didn't design it so hopefully he won't take offense... it's just my opinion, and I'm a nobody...
For my dirt bike, I'm all about the radiator guards. For my sexy, racy, uber-attractive sport bike, I'll pass.

I've seen the guards...thought I could do the same with some paint...but if you get better protection; sounds like tighter mesh...maybe less air in??? Anyone??

Be careful with guards, as they can actually reduce airflow, and increase heat if not properly designed. the stock guard does the trick, except for that twig...never seen a failure yet.
