For a rear shock and spring could you guys help me decide on which one of these brands are better and why? Not just which brand I mean if you have specific info best model number and all please do tell. I think I'm getting one for myself as an early Christmas present. I'm 5'6 and I weight 150 with out riding gear if that helps out.

Repsol Store was asking me if we wanted to do a group buy with them.

By the way, I added Elka to the pole! :)

I seen this brand put into a lot of forums and the quality seems to be right up their with Penske and Ohlins. What do you think Kahuna do you have an aftermarket rear shock? If you could get a group buy going then I'm sold because I'm getting a new shock I just haven't narrowed it down yet. I even like the color....

Hey Tim,

This thread (http://www.repsolforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1256&referrerid=138) may interest you!

If Dave's deal gets to the sweet spot, I very well may join in...

And I didn't vote, because I have absolutely no experience with street bike suspension. The REPSOL is the first bike I've ever had the money to "mod", so I'm learning as I go. The wheels were the first major purchase. Suspension is next on my list.

I talked it over with an amateur racer (very good friend of mine) and he didn't think I'd ever see the full benefit of an aftermarket shock for street riding. Throw in a lot of track days and the cost becomes more justifiable. He did say that you can buy new internals for the stock shock and save a bit of money and end up with almost the same performance. I can't speak on the matter becaue I've done absolutely no research yet.

I run a Penske rear shock on my 900, sprung for my weight. It was the best thing I could have done, as it really improved the overall performance of the bike. Having the suspension setup for you weight is probably the most important thing you can do to your bike.

On the Repsol, I went cheap and had Mike from CTSmoto install a Traxxion spring kit to better handle my weight.

I would love to get my hands on an Elka as I've been wanting one for years. They offer two and three way adjustable shocks, but in my opinion, the three way is overkill for the street. I'm thinking we could get a price much lower than the retail $835.00 for the standard two way.

If I remember correctly, we would need at least four orders to get a better price, and I believe Mike from CTS is interested himself, so we would need only three more people to complete the group buy.

If you guys are interested, I can get the particulars if you want.

Thanks for the input fella's and yea I think for the street 2 way is probably the best deal. I do want the HYD also so if anyone else is intrested then I would much rather do this for a better deal. If I don't see it going anywhere soon I'm just going to have to jump all over it myself. Do you think I could get a discount anyway maybe active duty militart or repsol forum discount?

I'm interested - just depends which route we go. I'd jump on the bandwagon for just about any rear suspension option, considering just about any improvement would be enough for my street riding.

If you're interested in the Ohlins deal, post in Dave's thread so he can keep track of it there. I'll follow the group on this one...

EDIT: just got to that thread and saw your post... keep your fingers crossed!

You know what? You're not going to be able to use a Competition Werks fender eliminator kit what that shock.

To save you the hassle, just put the shock back in the box and send it to my address.... :D

Damn bro, that is a sweet looking shock. I see on the box that it says "original gold." Does that mean that they are finally going to make them with other colors. I know for a fact that it can be done even when they are hard anodized like that. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to say anything, but Mike was doing a little leg work for them and the last time I was at the shop he show me the one and only blue Scott's steering dampener in existence at the time. Pretty damn sweet if you ask me. :)

December 13th, 2007, 08:36 PM
Yea, ya know I'm not sure if they are going to make diffrent colors or not but it sure would be sweet if they did. Yea I'm really excited to put it on. My buddy is coming over tomorrow night we are going hook it up and get up early on Saturday and head to Palomar Mt. so we can test it out. I'll post some pictures when we get it on and at the top of Palomar.....:)

The space is pretty compact and the barrier will protect the shock from dings during the install.

Here it is....it took us like 2 hours because we are rookies and probably didn't have the best tools to do the job their were a lot of tight spots and at first it really dosen't look like the shock is going to fit but determination and a little finess went a long way.

Alright I finally got a chance to hit some corners with the new shock and I gotta tell ya it's like a cadillac in the corners. Just seems so much more stable expecially on the street with all the little bumps in the road before now it seems to just glide over them. My appoligies on the lingo I'm not a track guy so I dont' have the vocabulary to explain it's performance from that perspective. All I know it that the rear tire when I'm in a turn and hit a bump dosen't move like it used to. All in all I'm very happy with the performance and give this shock a rateing of "Bad Ass".......

Nice rear shock tribaltim,

i was gonna get that shock during the summer, but decided against it since i heard that you must change the front shocks also to get maximum benefit. anyways, congratulations on that shock!!!!! very envious.
