Well, Santa showed up early this year..... :D

EDIT: Yes, I know it needs rotors (we can't all be like BK, yet). Yes, I know it's dirty. Yes, I know I need to do the fender eliminator. Yes, I know my garage is a mess. Got a little pile of goodies waiting to be installed, plus a dirt bike in pieces awaiting a rebuild (look on the hood of the Mustang).

Another EDIT: I took the rear pegs off so I can send them to Tripage. That's why the exhaust heat shield is exposed. Will remedy that when the footpegs return.

Hey Big Kahuna - it's no longer a secret. I let the proverbial cat out of the bag.

I know you've just been dying to tell everyone... :D

P.S. I wonder if BK will somehow find a reason to post a pic of his rotors in this thread? :p

LOL - the work bench is in front of the Mustang. I laid a thick mat on the hood and set a few parts from the dirt bike (see avatar) on there while I rebuild the engine... it's in a million pieces right now.

That's all coming with the next install day. Doing the CW fender eliminator, integrated tail light, and removing reflectors, etc.

The heat shield will be covered again when I get my pegs back from Tripage.

That's one of the great deals that took place while you were out of service. Mike offered a deal that was too good for me to pass up...

So far, this forum has provided some really good deals on really cool REPSOL specific parts. I look forward to many, many more! :D

UPDATE:

Many of you may be aware of this already from the other thread, but I'm going to update this thread from now on.

While washing the bike, I discovered that the "powdercoat" is flaking on the rear wheel. Needless to say, my heart sank. Here I go spending well over $1k on a set of wheels and they flake on me 6 months after installation. I thought "powdercoating" was supposed to be somewhat permanent.

5615 5616

Note: the area that flaked off has grown literally 5x larger then what's pictured in the photo. It seems to grow every time I ride the bike.

Last week: I emailed photos to Mike at CTS moto and then called to discuss it with him. Lo and behold, he is no longer a dealer for CZ due to quality concerns such as this (apparently, he's had two other sets do the same thing) and poor customer service. He looked at my photos and stated that the wheels were not stripped prior to "powdercoating", as there is clearly black paint or annodizing showing where the orange color flaked off. Great. CZ cut corners.

Today (4/30): I called CZ and talked to one of their techs. What's the first sentence out of his mouth when I describe the problem? "We don't warranty the finish". Great. I'm f'ed. So I at least got in a few jabs before I hung up the phone.

I then called a local powdercoater that's done good work for me in the past. I stopped by his shop on the way home from work and showed him the rear wheel. As soon as he saw it, he said "That's not powdercoat, it's paint". And he made the same comment about the paint being applied over black paint or annodizing. CZ really cut some corners on this.

So now I'm looking at spending in the neighborhood of $300 to have both wheels stripped to bare metal and actually powdercoated. The good news - he has Repsol orange in stock and says it's a near perfect match. Claims it's a better match than the CZ's, which I thought matched quite well.

So, for all of you that purchased wheels from this deal (http://www.repsolforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1114&referrerid=138) - BEWARE. Your wheels may not be finished as well as you thought.

Overall, I'm extremely happy with the wheels themselves. They're absolutely gorgeous, very light, and I get compliments on them all the time. But the finish from CZ couldn't be worse and I'm extremely disappointed with the customer service. Seems like they wrote me off the minute they received my cash.

I plan to shop one or two other powdercoaters before I have it done. I completely trust this guy, as I've seen A LOT of his work, and it's all been great.

I was a little surprised when he quoted me $300 though. That price includes: removing the tires and bearings from the wheels, stripping both layers of paint/powdercoating/annodizing from the wheels, powdercoating them, reinstalling the bearings and mounting the tires.

How did I miss all this? What a bag of crap. I think you should continue to call CZ until the pony up the funds to fix the problem. Where on their site does it say they don't warranty the finish? They are guilty of false advertising, as they say that the rims are powder coated right there on the website.

http://forged-wheel.com/Vstar.htm

Plain and simple, it says their wheels are powder coated and come with a 5 Year Limited Warranty!!!

Limited to not include the finish I guess.....seriously blows though....I feel your pain TX but atleast after abit more pain and cash you will have those nice rims with a quality powder coating......what you paid for the first time.....but anyway!! :D

You have those rims BK dont you? You had the same problem? Maybe everyone that has coughed up the money for them has a ticking timebomb!!

Mike from CTS bought the rims in raw form and then had them powder coated. CZ decided to do it themselves after they saw how much interest there was. But it appears that they decided to powder coat over their existing wheel stock, which had already been anodized. I wonder how many guys over at 1000rr.net are having a problem. I know they recently had a group buy on them.

I just read the update...so you paid for coated but got painted?? Sounds like fraud to me, if I'm reading what you wrote correctly. I'd contact the Better Business Bureau. They won't fix it or be worth a rats ass, but at least the complaint will be filed.

Not anymore. Now all they show is anodized, no mention of powdercoating at all. I guess they are covering their ass.

Haven't touched them. Been too busy to worry with it.

I do know that the wheels are painted orange over black anodizing. Now it's just a matter of going without the bike for a week or so while I have the wheels stripped and powdercoated...

Why arent the supplier of these rims sorting this obvious poor manufaturing issue out for you? Its a clear warranty!

I quote CZ customer service: "We don't warranty the finish".

In other words: "Thanks for your money, now go away".

Looks like they don't even offer the orange anymore. Did they actually say the rims were powder coated or paint? I'm thinking if they advertised that they were powder coated and they are not, you should have a good case for fraud.

I seem to recall the site showed Orange Powdercoat as a finish option. Apparently there were enough problems that they discontinued it altogether.

I'd have to say that the CZ version of the wheels were a much closer match to the Repsol orange, which leads me to believe that they were indeed paint. I think TX took his wheels to the powder coated and he mentioned that he thought it was paint as well.

Correct. The wheels on my bike are amazingly close in color to the actual Honda Repsol orange and are indeed painted, not powder coated.

I'm afraid to see what happens when I powdercoat them - it's so close now, if it's off I'll be disappointed...
