It took a little longer than expected but after all the BS I finally got my Bachelors in Manufacturing Engineering
Technology with a minor in Business Managment :D Yesterday was my last official day of school, finishing up my
12 week internship with the company I have been working at. Also, they offered me another internship for
12 more weeks. Hopefully I can get a job soon. Not sure where I want to go though. Im just really excited about
this and wanted to share with you guys.

CONGRATULATIONS!
I walked the stage in May 2003 and it's been nothing but uphill since then.
I wish you luck with the job search. Do your best to find a good position and stick with it. I've got friends that keep changing jobs every 1.5 - 2 years and they are all making considerably less money than me.
Not saying that'll always be the case, but I'm on an amazing ride with my employer and am not planning on going anywhere.
Thread hijacked, kinda. :o

Thanks man. Im not sure if the place Im at will offer me a full time job or not. Right now isnt really a good time
to be working there though. Everyone there keeps telling me the only way Ill make money is to move around
every couple years. Good to see your employer is takin care of you though. Hopefully Ill get in with a
good place soon too.

Congrats dude!
Once the degree starts to pay - you'll forget the extra years you took to finish college.
It's always worth it.
I can't wait to graduate in the next 2-3 years..:p

That will work once or twice. After a while, your resume will be 4 pages long and potential employers will see you as a flight risk.
I've got several friends that graduated with me and have done the bouncing around game. Last year, I was jealous of only one of them, as he had successfully eclipsed my salary by $20k. This year, I'm making $35k more than him!
He's stuck at a job he's just content with, and I'm working somewhere that I look forward to going to work. He's always got his eyes open for the next "sucker" to give him a big raise. I've got my eyes on the next promotion at the same firm I started my career with.
Again, not all situations are the same, but I don't think the bouncing around game plan works for long-term success.

Yeah that makes sense. Im just gettin started with these things called "real jobs" so I need all the advice I
can get right now. But I do see were all the moving around could be a bad thing. Thanks again everyone.

I am still working on getting my associates degree in Information and Computer Science, however being in the military I only have time to take 2 courses per semester. Good luck in finding a good job.

Congratulations Adam, I am working on my Bachelors in Ac****ing and can't wait to finish. I think I still have a little over a year. I was just telling David that I would love to do an internship with a CPA, I just think I would get so much more from that.
Again, I am proud of you and congrats......:You_Rock:

CONGRATULATIONS ADAM
Word of advice, don't go out into the big world thinking you know it all. Listen to everything you are told by your colleagues and peers. Never tell someone what to do always suggest.
I started at the bottom and worked my way up, the final words from my instructor were "I have taught you all the correct way to to do things, NEVER tell an old timer they are doing it wrong unless you want a smack round the ear"
These words paid great dividends in later life when I worked for a Chemical Company as a Tech. I shadowed an old timer for 2 weeks, during the whole time I never lifted a wrench. It drove me nuts, but I kept my mouth shut and listened to every word he said. I came in to work one day and he said "I hope you were listening, get your tools, it's your turn !!!!!" He then stood back and shadowed me. That guy was an ex Chief Engineer from the navy, a very smart guy who became a great work colleague.
Jump forward a year, a new tech started and had to shadow the same old timer. Two days into his training the old timer says"That kid thinks he knows it all" I smiled and thought to myself I know what is coming. The old timer marched into the bosses office and said "Get that kid out of my sight before I send him back to where he came from"
I ended up having to train him, did I train him well.....Hell No! told him just what I had to and let him struggle.
Always go the extra yard when you have to and never clock watch you will be surprised what gets noticed.
I am a great believer that any degree should include a minimum of 1 years work experience before you graduate. Theory is one one thing, the real world is another, you need knowledge of both to be succesful in life.
I hope one day you repeat this advice to another young post graduate, by which time you should be an old timer.........:D:D
Yet again congrats and good luck with the job search.

Great advice Chris, I am defiantly not the know it all type when Im at work. I have been working at this
place for 12 weeks and I still learn something new everyday from the guys I work with. We make some really cool
stuff from the military, its called Carleton Life Support (http://www.carletonls.com). I work in
the cryogenic cooler division, they go on infrared and night vision systems on plane, tanks, jets and helicopters.
Very cool stuff.
And again thanks everyone there are some stand up people here
