Hey guys, i know i keep bugging u bout a single sided swing arm i can use on my repsol without spending $5000. I just read and seen in the cycle world magazine the 08 cb1000r has a single sided swing arm. is it possible to use this swing arm?
The only problem is that it also says they will not be selling this bike in the us.
Why does europe have better looking bikes?
Its a prety awsome looking bike.
Im still looking for a single sided swing arm that wont cost me too much.
p.s. We have some very inteligent people in here, help me find a solution .

I'm sure you're wanting this for bling effect, but frankly I wouldn't do it. I think it would destroy the handling/geometry of the bike which is not designed for a single-sided setup.

Would it look cool yes,...is it worth the effort...I don't think so...RR

If you want a single swingarm bike, buy a VFR and paint it Repsol...

A. Yes you do.

B. The 08 CB1000r is bad a$$ and I really really really want one. :D

C. Cause Europe sucks! :shoot:

D. Buy a Busa and call it a day if you want a single side swinger. :haha:

That is all.....

I hate chrome if thats what you mean by bling.
i was hoping to powder coat the single side swing arm black and paint what ever rims i get orange. I just am looking for a cleaner look.
have done some mods and want to keep going. trying to clean it up.
I love how the single sided swing arm looks. i dont mind if it effects the handling, im sure il get used to the change.
I wont stop till my repsol is single sided. i just think it needs the entire orange back rim to show off.

I definitely don't mean chrome...I think carbon fiber is bling...it's just customization to me, which is what you want.

I'm not hatin' the idea...it would definitly look cool, but it's just not worth the effort and cost to me.

I found this post on another forum...Can it be converted somehow to my bike?

900rr Single Sided Swing Arm Conversion

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After reading many posts on how easy it is to put a VFR750 swingarm on my CBR900rr I finally aquired the parts needed and dove into the project.

Everthing that I had read up on said that all I would besides the swing arm and wheel was a spacer and a couple of washers. Well not exactly.

Here is what I used from the CBR
1. Rear shock

2. Shock link - I had the one from the VFR but never tried it - I don't know if it would work

What I used from the VFR

1. Swing arm with back brake and brake line

2. Rear Wheel

3. Rear Sprocket

I had to make a spacer - I used the dimentions from one of the postings 25mm x 20mm with a 20mm hole. I worked ok but I wish it were a little longer to center the pivot bolt a little better. - too much sticking out on the left side when every thing was tight.
Everything bolted on with ease and I had no problems unitl it came time to put my chain back on .
The VFR uses a 530 sporcket my CBR had a 525. I couldn't find a 530 for a CBR or a 525 for a VFR so. By chance I tried a 530 VFR front on the CBR output shaft and it fit.

Extra stuff that I had to buy
1. New front sprocket
2. Chain - (those arn't cheap)
3. Chain tightening wrench - Need a spanner to tighten on the VFR

Still an easy switch if you have all the right parts when you start. I hope this helps anyone who is interested.

Honda's VFR, RC30, NC30, NC35 all use single side swing arm....there has to be one that can be converted to a 1000rr.

i also found this post;

That said, Mr. Shang.... there is a VFR - CBR SSSA conversion out there that is supposedly fairly easy. I'm not sure if I've heard about it here or another forum though. You'll be hard pressed to find a VFR owner that is parting out the specific model you'll need and it may not be worth the hassle or price. Either way the search feature is your friend.

Well hopefully someone more smarter than me can figure this one out.

All the after market single sides for 1000rr are extended that i have seen. You really want to extend a race replica?? You need your hand slapped! I'm with Adam. . .buy a busa or something that wont look so silly with this mod.:)

Don't do it Mega spend the money on some nice suspension or something else for the bike ;)

My suggestion...get a Ducati 916,996,998,1098 which are the most beautiful single sided swingarmed bikes in the world and call it a day. See yellow 996 SPS in my gallery. Pure sex on two wheels. http://www.flickr.com/photos/almarmada/

Here it is on a 1000rr. cool for a custom but gross on a race replica! And besides. . . you have to beef up the frame quite a bit to run these as well.:)

I do like this look but I don't want the extebded version for my repsol. I want the regular single sided swing arm that other bikes come with. There has to be one we can convert to a 1000rr without buying those extended versions everyone is selling for 5000.

Unfortunately Mega, swapping for a VFR swing arm was only simple on the older RR models. Mostly pre 98-99 but I do know of a few guys who have swapped them on the 98-99 bikes. They were very specific in VFR years as well, the later models won't work.

Gone are the days where Honda shared a lot of the same dynamics in the bikes. It seems most of the new models are vastly different from each other. Well except for the 600 and 1000 RR models. :)
