Does anyone know how much HP is gained by adding full aftermarket exhaust (headers back) v/s just slip-on?

Not enough to be worth the additional cost and labor in my opinion unless you will be racing the bike.

The other thing to note is that it will have more effect higher in the rev range making the bike hit harder high up and your torque curve won't be as street friendly.

I gained 8-9 with my slip-on with a good custom map, while you'll get 10-12 with a full system and lose that beautiful linear torque in the mid-range which is ideal for twisties.

I say slip-on all the way and I do quite a few track days.

Others will disagree with me, but I worked with a master race bike tuner to help determine the right decision for me.

Cheers...RR

i agree.... its not worth the extra $ 500+ for the full exhaust to only gain 2 more ponies! they both will give the sound and look. but its your bike your money! good luck

Thanks RR and Jquick......I had a feeling that might be the answer but I wanted someone who had experience with it to tell me a true opinion. I have had lot's of experience with all drivetrain and engine mod's on drag car's, street rod's and I have been used to dealing with engines that needed very little if any back pressure at all, but this past 2 year's is the first time I have delved into doing much mechanic's on street bikes.

I agree with the above... typically just adding an exhaust system will gain 3-5 HP tops... then you throw on a PC3 and get a new custom tune .... that might put you in the 10-12 HP range... all in all you spend about $150-$200/HP

Does anyone that has a Yoshimura or Sato exhaust agree with this?
Because I like the deep sound of both of those pipes and will get one when I get my bike. Plus I heard they have good horsepower gains, but I dont know if they have the best horsepower gains as I am a Noob and don't know that much about these 2 exhausts, and yes I have read most of the exhaust threads, but not that much info from riders who have these pipes.

Unless you are building a race only track bike the only thing exhaust is going to do is make your bike sound different... there is literally such a small increase in power even with the PC3 and custom tune that you will probably never even notice it happened

that being said, if you really want exhaust find clips of the sounds on youtube and googlevideo and get the one you think sounds the best... don't worry about HP unless you need to pick up and extra three tenths at the track

If you've got the money burning a hole in your pocket, it's not a bad investment.

I think the typical argument against full exhaust is that its not completely necessary for a street bike. Again, it you want it, and can afford it, go for it.

Just be advised that you could do the slip-on, keep the stock header, and throw a PC on there with the cash saved + you'll have more horsepower with the slip-on + PC than with the full exhaust and no PC.

i have BMC filter, PCIII, and just a slip on. so i have it all but headers. kinda the only next thing to do for performance as in bolt on.

but if not really worht all the money cuase i would be losing money trying to sell my exhaust and upgrading to a full system.
