MOTORCYCLIST MAG. JUNE 2005 ISSUE. there were some tests done on some few helmets. Comparing diferent materials....Polycabornate and Fiberglass.
When the helmet hits the road or a curb, the outer shell stops instantly. But your head keeps going inside the helmet untill it collides with the liner. It's the liner's job to bring the head to a gentle stop.
CONSIDERING A GOOD HELMET, LOWER THAN 250 GS....ANYTHING OVER 300GS...HEAD INJURY FOR LIFE.

the lower the number the better (Fewer Gs = Less chance of brain injury).

All those numbers are fine and dandy but always make sure you put that chin strap on tight.

Just curious :confused2:

Are those numbers (GS) located on the helmet somewhere? My two helmets weren't listed and I was just curious. I will try and look it up but just figured I would ask if you might know off the top of your head. Thanks........;)

Kinda surprised about Scorpion exo700 being last. I actually fell with one of those on and it worked great. Then again I was only going about 20-25mph. But I got right up and it was like it never happened...it absorbed the shock so well I went and bought another one. May consider another brand now.

I noticed Shoei was not on the list. Do you have any input for a shoei helmet?

SHOIE helmet did not provided a helmet for the tests. there were some companies that thought it was a bogus test....Snell foundation had a fit...that carried out till this year...after two years, they finally agreed that the tests were more or less acurate and well performed, even though some of their line up items...scored some what high....and some of the helmets with their decal and aproved logo...will be running till 2012.

only the helmets that mentioned above were tested.....the tests are averages from tests done of impacts from...

rear left side, rear right side, front left side and front right side.

i was even surprised on the helmet from pepboys....scored very good in this test....and Z1R...which is the next helmet on my list of next purchased.

i dont have a scanner to copy of the sheets and articles to send it to big kahuna or to attached to this thread.

it all depends on the incident and how you fell. good you are okay.

remember that once you are in an accident with your helmet.....it is time to get a new one.

also it is good to replace your helmet every 3 1/2 -4 years. after a while, helmets materials and liners...deterioate with time.

Heres a more up to date and complete list of helmet reviews I found. http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-helmets/motorcycle-helmets.htm

No testing on them. But any

helmet sold in the US has to be DOT and Snell approved which meets at least the minimum requirements for

street use. Any helmet that fits proper and that is approved is better than nothing.

all helmets sold in the usa are dot aproved. but some are made better then the others. all of them are good helmets. Snell foundation is a bogus sticker which makes the helmet cost about $40-60 dollars more just because of the sticker.

if you read at the top of this thread.

the test were conducted on two types of material.....fiberglass and polycarbonate. some are better than others comparing them with the tests.

if you see the letters next to the helmet f and p.....those are the materials.

it is a test that was conducted to compare the helmets.
