View Full Version : Think I need a PCIII?

2007 Repsol, Flapper and PAIR mod, and a new Scorpion race slipon which removes the stock exhaust valve.

Everything else is stock.

Bike seems to run fine but even with the PAIR disabled, I do still get some crackling and popping on decel... Not really bad, but it is noticeable. Can't really tell if it is because the new can is loud and now I can hear what was always there, or if the new can leaned things out? Not sure...

I know that any bike, even a stock bike, can benefit from a PCIII and decent map, but my concern is making sure that my mods have not altered things to the point that I am too lean, or something that could cause a problem.

Starting off from a dead stop the bike bogs a little and then leaps forward right around 3000rpm.

Also, and it did this completely stock, there is a noise at lower rpm's as you take off from a stop, almost like a crackling, but from the motor, not the exhaust. It is really hard to describe, almost a metallic sound.

Anyone know what I am talking about, and are these things pretty normal? I came from a 954rr so I am not all that used to this bike yet and have no reference point.

And how hard is it to install the PCIII on this bike? Is the plug hard to get to? Was fairly easy on the F4i and 954rr... Just lift up the tank, pull up the rubber skirt and there it was.

Thanks!

from what i hear any bike can benefit from a pc. a slip on can make the bike run leaner but i dont know how much the flapper would. id say go for it because it cant hurt. and they seem simple enough to mount in the tail and run the wire up under the seat, yes. as far as crackling and weird noises, i came from a suzuki so those were normal :D

Yes, I'd stick a PCIII on there even for just a slipon. The bike seems to run much smoother with a PCIII.

I'd stick it on there even with the stock exhaust. Just get the right map, I had a problem with a bad map. The engine noise is normal, its a very noisy engine.

Also, something that Mike mentioned something I never thought of. When you do the flapper mod, make sure that it is in the full open position when you disable the vacuum line. Mike says it will stay closed if you do the mod when the flapper is close and the bike will run like crap.

You should be able to visually inspect the flapper without removing any parts to make sure that it is in the full open position.

Just take it out. Get the HRC intake. :D

WHat do you mean? I thought that if you removed the vacuum line and plugged it when the engine was not on, that it was automatically in the open position??

Where can I easily check?
