I have been searching around on here and 1000rr.net and it seems like the oil of choice is the Repsol Full Synthetic 10w50. Is this what everyone reccomends, and if not, what oil would you reccomend.
Also, I have a left over filter from an 03 CBR954, and was curious if anyone knows if it the same one for my 05 1000RR. It is from Honda, and the part number is 15410-MCJ-003.
Thanks
Anthony

not sure the one I use is part number 15410-MFJ-D01 the problem is honda uses different part numbers for the same part so they can track what year bike you are getting parts for. so same part for multi years but different part numbers :confused2:
I recently bought some Castrol Rk4 superbike 5w 40 and it was F'ing superb, I took a chance because it had been marked dwon from 12.95 to 8.95 a quart. Good Stuff. I try to stay true to a prooven product like repsol lubricants but when I can save some bucks I do ;)

Do a little research(Google) on Shell Rotella T 15W-40 oil....it is found in Walmart for 8.00+/gallon.
I used it after a riding buddy suggested it to me.
He is real hardcore about his Gsxr1000....so if it were crap, he wouldnt use it.
Im not praising it or pushing the product....but when you compare it to some of the other oils out there, its a nice alternative.
I used the Repsol synthetic, but after paying 40.00+ I decided to look at any other options.

A few of my buddies that race (read: change their oil A LOT) use Rotella T and swear by it...
I haven't converted yet - will probably do so on the next oil change.

Is that just the regular Rotella T oil you would by for a car? I'm pretty sure thats what I run in my diesel F250, and if so, I can get that free and would definately run it as long as all the reviews are good. Seems like you and TXRepsol haven't heard any bad.

I think to be on the safe side I'm gonna take the filter in to the dealership tomorrow and ask, cause I'm gonna be out that way anyways.

I think you are correct....its in the auto section of Walmart...and doesnt have any special labeling "for motorcycles only" on it.
The guys here at work that ride together have all switched to it after our coworker recommeneded it.
Ive done 2 oil changes with it....and Im due for another...I will be using it again.

I would suggest a thinner oil for easier pumpability due to the high rpms we run...I run 10w30...either honda oil or repsol oil.

Ive heard its bad to use any type of automotive oil on motorcycles. Something about there
being moly in it and over time it will ruin the clutch :confused2: I dont take my chances and run Honda oil
in mine. Paid to much to ruin my bike over saving a couple bucks an oil change.

There is a reason that the manufactures recommend certain motorcycle oils. First because they want to make a few bucks but more important is that the oil is made specifically for motorcycles. I would not use automotive oil in a motorcycle. I am not saying that you need to use Repsol or Pro Honda but make certain the oil you use is at least as good and is made for motorcycles. I ran into the same thing with my Harleys. Harley oil is the only thing I use in them.

Any thoughts on the Motorex Top Speed 10w30? I have used Motorex oil products before and am very happy. First oil change on the 08CBR1000R and like to stick to one brand/style. :confused2:

I ended up using the Mobil 1 Extended Life 15w50 Synthetic (Gold Cap), and couldn't be happier. It's pretty cheap to compared to others, about 7 a quart, and you can get it at wal mart, meijer, or other places like that.

I have always run Mobil Racing 4T synthetic in my bikes but no one is stocking it locally anymore so I searched around and found Amsoil having a reputation of superior quality. I just turned 3000 miles on the bike, which is the point I switch from dino-oil to synthetic, so I thought I would go with the Amsoil and see how it works. Their website claims that under normal operating conditions it is safe to double the manufacturers recommended drain/change interval if using their oil and filter. It's a little expensive but if I only change my oil once a year it may be worth it.

This is some really good information. Also, Honda oil is NOT one of the best to use based on the owners manual! The owners manual recommends NOT using oils containing Molybdenum additives because they are not good for the clutch, and Honda oils actually have one of the higher concentrations of that additive. Go figure.

i was using motul synt. oil. 10/40 for the past 10 years for my suzuki.
but since i purchased the repsol...i had to support the brand....so now i buy the repsol 10/40 synthetic.
by the way......cycle gear had a sale on all fluids and chemicals 25% off on all brands...that was friday 4th of july.
so i stacked up my garage. i purchased 12 quarts for $60...plus free three repsol t-shirts.....man i was so happy.

I went to an Autobarn today and they had 2 types of Repsol oil the Synthetico one and the Racing one...the racing one was about $30.00 dearer.
So can anyone please tell me the oil to get?
Also ordered a set of NGK plugs at $25.00 a pop.

^ $25 ea/plug ...WTF! You should order them from Superbike Supply instead. I use the 15w-50 race (which is ful synthetic - other one is not) but localy its like $12/qt. They can get you the oil also. I have a hard time finding the 15w-50 localy. If he can't ship down under the try spark plugs dot com and try to find the oil local since shipping will be alot. It would be nice if registered owners could get a racer discount on Repsol oil like I get with Lucas for my RX7.

Anyone using the Scot Billet re-useable oil filter? I put one on my Super Blackbird this season.
For oil I'm more of a dino oil type myself. Currently running Belray and Agip motorcycle specific products in my machines. I'm not sure what "the new to me" RR has in it. I suspect it's Honda lube as the original owner did not even adjust his own chain tension,..so I think the dealer did all the required oil changes and such.
