well i searched around this site and couldn't really find any info on how to get on a track. I have never been on a road course before and would really like to start going.
I hear a lot of people say you have to go to a class first and the class cost like 1200 bucks.

I read all the rules about mirrors, tail lights, oil leaks and exhaust but how do you qualify to bring your bike on a track (as in skill level)?

any info would be greatly appreciated.

Brian, its a lot easier than you think. Check out NESBA.com for an example of a track day organization. I've done several track days with them. Bike prep is easy and actually pretty fun to do. Just have to tape over or remove all turn signals and lights, have good tires, no oil leaks, good brakes, and make sure the bike is clean. Some tracks require that you safety wire the oil drain bolt, oil filter, oil fill cap, and run water in the radiator(distilled). This is all for safety and to keep the track clean. Look at sportrider.com under tech tips and look for safety wiring, real good pictures for you to look at. Most fun you'll ever have and you dont have to go to a racing school to do it. Most tracks run from 130.00 to 200.00 a day to hone your skills. You will not believe how much better you will ride after a few track days under your belt. Keep the rubber side down!

Don't forget you'll need full leathers (1 or 2 piece), gloves and boots. Also check out Tony's Track Days on the web. A lot of dealerships may offer them too so check your locals, especially local Duc dealers.

Beware even if someone else slams into your bike, you are responsible for the damage.

I go to Utah twice a year and ride on the new track they built(Miller Motorsports Park)....runs about 200.00 a day but well worth it.....

I just went to that website for nesba, thank you so much. It answered every question I had about track days.

I am so use to drag racing with cars where you get maybe 4-5 runs in and then the track closes because it is so busy.

Thank you all so much for the info.

I hope nobody slams into me at a track day, that would just suck.
