Hey all....
I bought my 05 repsol used... about 4000 miles on it.... I want to change the oil & filter.....
Now.. I don't have a dealer near me so was wondering about the following....
How about using a FRAM oil filter (PH6607) on the Repsol....? I can get one at my local Wal-Mart....
ALSO --- What kind of oil should I go with? Regualr or Synthetic? What weight?
Thanks
tim

I use the OEM oil filters, but K&N does make one as well. Not sure if you will really see a difference between that and the OEM oil filter. As far as oil goes, i use Repsol Synthetic 4t 10w50 Racing Oil. Little high on price, but i think that stuff is fantastic. Just my .02

I've only used Honda OEM or Amsoil filters. Oil, I've used a bunch but and have been using Amsoil mostly but I recently bought a gallon of the Repsol oil because I heard and read a lot of good things about it. They are really making an effort to get their products into the states. I had the pleasure of meeting a few of their reps while at the Laguna track day. They have much more info on the oils than I can ever remember, but it's all good.

I would higly recommend using the Honda filter. The cheaper knock-off have been know to come apart inside causing obstructions. As far as oil goes Honda recommends regular or synthetic blend oil. It is important to use a motorcycle oil (choose your own favorite brand) because they have an anti-foaming agent in them that car oils do not have. The reason for this is that the oil passage ways are smaller on motorcycles and you don't want foam (air bubbles) passing through, you want oil. Honda recommends NOT using a fully synthetic oil because unlike a car (dry clutch), the bikes have a WET clutch. The fully synthetic oils are too slick and can cause premature clutch failure (slipping). Again, these are simply recommendations from Honda.

Honda actually recommends using their brand oil, which isn't fully synthetic. Honda doesn't say you can't use anything you want, you just need to stay away from oils that contain a moly additive. Thats what can make your clutch slip. I have been using fully synthetic oils since 1994 without any problems at all. Try the Repsol 4T.

I'm glad this has been brought up again. I've decided to use Repsol oil for all my bikes. It's not just for Repsols you know, it works great in all autos and bikes. :)

Repsol as been doing a lot for us here on the forum, and I want to help get the word out. I did some checking around and found that Repsol oil is actually pretty darn good. It's not just for bikes as they have oils for all other applications. He'll, I'm going to but some in my car as well. :)

Speedy's site contains some great information on Repsol Oils:

Just changed the oil on the bike using Mobil 1 15W-50 EP & M1-108 oil filter. (Got info from hooliganbiketech). Wanted the Repsol Oil but was a little pricey for my budget.

What does anybody think of Amsoil full synthetic for bikesI've used Amsoil, it works like all the other Synthetics. I choose Repsol because of all the good things I've heard about the oil, and also because they have been so good to us here on the forum. :)

I've decided that after reading up on Speedy's oil pages, I'm only going to change my oil once a year. I think $60.00 per year for oil isn't too much to pay. I'm no tree hugger, but I really thought Speedy's comments about wasting natural resources by changing your oil to regularly was a very good point.

I only average about 3 - 4000K (2 - 3000 miles) give or take a bit a year so I usually change it before I put it away for the winter. Thabks for the feed back on Amsoil, just changed to it last fall and some people in this area like it and some don't. Maybe it's just the name, who knows:).If repsol ever starts selling in this area I will definately change just because:)

C'mon guys...we're ridin' Repsols, we are on the Repsol Forum...Repsol is good to us Repsol owners...

Is there any other choice? Repsol oil of course! And you can use either in the bike...I'm using 4T currently.

When it comes to oil, money is no object...it's the life blood of your bike...which cost you a lot, so why scrimp on product quality.

I can't imagine that Walmart has a compatible filter, but I do like the Repsol orange Fram.

I just chanhed my oil. I use Amsoil and Redline in my cars but didn't even think to check if the auto store had moto oil. One of the local dealers carries Respol and I got a K&N from cycle west. The OEM filter took a few min to get off. I have a fitler wrench but it was so tight it kept slipping. The K&N uses a 12mm wrench, so much easier!
