Anybody have any experience with this...Im interested in trying to keep my header cooler so it doesnt melt my plastics.
I got a quote of 240.00 from a local dealer. The guy sounded like a real azzhole..like I was troubling him for a quote.
Or should I consider header wrapping? I just need the the lower part of the header done

I got my CBX 6 into 1 done from Jet Hot Coatings in Phoenix....stuff works great! Does keep the heat down, easy to clean and bullet proof. Turn around time was very reasonable and price was fair...
Looks good too!

Thats where I got this local jackazz's number....I will call THEM and see what they say....dont want to get hit with additional cost for shipping there and back.
The turnaround was 2 1/2 weeks from this local guy....Im not sure if HE does the coating...or sends it out to Jet Coat?

Wish I would have caught this sooner..
The difference between header wrap and Jet Hot is night and day...
First, I had a 97 Trans Am with an 8# supercharger and 2 core intercooler. My underhood temps soared with the blower on it. I had some JBA shorty headers and sent them off to the "Jet-Hot" main facility you see on-line. Yes, turn around is about 2 weeks total, but the quality is UNMATCHED.
The headers can be one of two coats: Hi-Temp or normal. For a bike, I suggest normal. If you're running NOS or a blower (e.g. a car), then pony up for the extra hi-temp. You can whack these things with a hammer and it won't chip and it's going to still look brand new. Long-term, they hold up and are 0 maintenance. If there are any threads, however, I'd suggest getting a throwaway plug (e.g. go to the dealer and get a ruined O2, or whatever) into the threaded hole so you don't have to clean threads. Your temps will drastically drop, and clearances do not change (due to a "wrap")
Wraps are a pain in the ass and with time will look like crap no matter what you do. With time, there are corrosion issues if you are an "all weather" rider like I am. Long-term, maintenance is much more and neglect will ruin your pipes. Clearance CAN become an issue because the pipes now get a good amount larger in diameter.
Now, granted, most people don't keep bikes for a long time (like you would be more likely to do with a car), but there are distinct distinct advantages to the coating, and comparing Jet-Hot to wrapping, is not an apples-to-apples comparison. If time is an issue, find someone who did a whole-exhaust upgrade and see if you can borrow their header while your's is out (or buy it).

Hello jim please introduce yourself!!!
That would be a good idea .First off I own a 2006 cbr 1000 but its not a repsol edition.I found this site when i googled a question on suspension.I think this is a really cool forum with tons of information.I have done a lot of things to my bike that members here have done to there's but I haven't commented because I felt out of place. However I felt like putting my 2 cents in about JET HOT because I was very pleased with there work.

They're just suggesting you head on over to the "Introduce yourself" forum and start yourself a new thread there.
As you're aware, we're a very friendly group and we like to get to know ya and give us a chance to say, "HOLA my friend!!"
Post up!! Your comments are always welcome even if you're not adding...

This is a Yoshimura Carbon fiber slip on that i cut 3 inches off of.The pipe was chromed and I sent that to JET HOT plus I also sent the stock muffler joint to be coated.

Have you ever felt the heat from the pipe once you got it coated...was it somewhat cool to the touch

It still gets very hot and you could never touch it untill it cools down.when i ride it with out any heat shield as you see, I dont feel it at all on my leg.

Jet Hot can reduce the temps a bit, but unless you're running Titanium, you're not going to be able to touch it. My titanium (uncoated) dissipated heat so quickly I could get off the bike, turn it off, count to 10 and put my hand on the pipe (while keeping it there). I'm not saying this is a desirable thing to do, but I'd do it to show people how well titanium cooled.

The reason Im interested in that coating is to help eliminate melting issues with aftermarket plastics.
I heard that coating was great in lowering the radiated heat from the header...but if ya say it still gets hot...not sure if it will be worth getting it done.

honestly I had it coated to blacken out the rear off the bike.I new powder coating wouldn't last so i went with JET HOT.there probably is a drop in temp. but it still gets hot enough to melt fairings in my opinion

How close is it and how close do you need to get? For example, on my 97 Trans Am, with my supercharger, my headers were so hot nothing could be within about 4 inches. Plug wires had a short life (even hitemp rated ones). I JetHot coated and it went back to being bearable and plug wires stopped failing. There was about a 1.5-2" gap between headers and plug wires. If you email JetHot, I'm sure they have some sort of temp reflection table to show a before and after.
EDIT: Have you tried what the factory does: Use heat reflecting tape? They put patches of tape that reflect the heat on the inside of the cowl at certain points.
