None of us can give you any advice on where you should shift but launching on a track and on the street shouldn't be any different.
Good luck and don't push it to hard your first few passes get the hang of it then start twisting the throttle more and more lol

Good luck! At least you won't have a lock up clutch like the Busa. Ride the blade like a two stroke! Try keep the wheel down!

Going to Englishtown? I ran a 11.7 (best) :D with my stock 900rr years back. It was a blast! Hard to keep that wheel down though. They put me next to a Busa that ran a 9.5. I saw his time pop up as I was shifting!
Good luck and have fun.
It was my first time and all the guys there told me to leave the line like you're leaving a stop sign, and then hammer it!
I was amazed at how sticky the launch area was. I almost left my shoes behind!

P.S. Has anyone ever hooked up a teather switch to the kill switch on a 2009? I mean the local track says i have to have one in case i fall of it breaks the connection to the ignition and shuts the bike down. Thanks in advance for any helpful information.

if i remember right they do sell one that you can hook up to the stock switch,
or you can go the cheap way and drill a little whole to the engine kill switch
(stock switch) and screw the teather to it it will work and pass tech. but you will alway have it on the bike.

I installed one on my Race quad i just taped into the stock kill switch wire and just ran a in line switch! tap both sides run to new switch and it kills the connection!

I am so glad your doing this, I am also going to do that. Hey Dan, how many miles do you have on your bike now? When did you start hammering it?
I have heard some guys run in the high 10's with the liter bikes, does that sound right?

:DYou should have ran mid to high 10's with that 900rr if you give it all it had. Back in 1988 the tech school i attended rented a drag strip for the day for all the students. I took my 86 700 vfr that i still own and ran 11.7 all day long. That is the same times the mags were getting out of those bikes back then. With more passes and coming out of the hole alot harder your times should improve. I have had three 900rr and it is hard to keep the front end down. The later years not as bad as the 93 and 94's. It is all in your clutching coming out of the hole.

I ran 10.7 with my fat ass on my '05...the '08/'09 will dip into the 9s with a decent rider... the others '04-'07 will do low 10s all day...

9's, HOLY CRAP!......thats awesome. Will take me a while to get the start down a bit better. Not as easy as it looks. Clutch, Throttle, feet, weight distribution, and Timing...Timing...Timing. I love having to TRY to keep the tire on the ground...that is freak'n fun as heck. My bike is just starting to break in and can really tell the difference in power.....tire comes up at 7.5K RPM's now in first.....with about half tank gas. :D:nana:

OK l bone stock 09 Repsol.. best time was a 10.757 at 135.84 mph.. 1.952 short time... next was a 10.825 at 139.10 mph...2.120 short time.. a few times i carried the front end about 100 feet.. and once i almost brought her over backwards.. she bit so hard... We.. i will have pics up later.. There was a guy there with a 06 ZX-14 running a 35hp N2O shot and running jsut over 9.40s.. and he was lifting the front about 2 feet 1-2-3 gears... and he had it extended over 6 inches.. (P.S. anyone know a place that will sell back tires cheap?? lol

How much do you weigh Dan...I was 225 when I did 10.7... carried the front through 2nd gear...
Keeping the front down is a huge challenge and you give up time... leaning way forward helps...slipping the clutch helps...slightly draggin' the rear brake helps but I mean very slightly or it defeats your purpose...
I'll be takin' the '05 out one more time before she sells... and I'll get the '08 out this year sometime...I'll be shootin' for 10.2...
Race takeoffs can be real cheap...and they're normally more worn on the sides than the center...perfect for draggin'...

Robert, i go around 195lbs... I am impressed with a 10.75.. I mean first time on the bike at the track, and only been riding any bike besides the old Haro ever. I have 1 month experiance under my belt lol. I know i will be dipping to the 10.4s or 10.5s by the end of summer. And it isnt keeping it down in 2nd or 3rd gear, its trying to slip the clutch and keep it down in 1st gear lol. I was holding the front end off the ground about 60-70 feet in first.. and it wasnt just a few inches.. i mean it was like 1-1.5 feet up..lol. Next time i get a video of it..

I wasn't trying to compare our weight vs. time as much as understanding your weight compared to mine and the impact on wheelies... you will definitely have a harder time holding it down than a lard ass like me...:D
10.75 is fantastic your first time out... and your launch is where it's at... you just don't want to end up at 12 o'clock...or worse 9 o'clock, which means you just looped it...
Definitely post up your progress... I've only beeen on the drag strip twice with mine... looking forward to taking both bikes next time and running back to back.

Ithe process of doing pics.. Do yourself a favor.. make sure you have the money for a new back tire if you plan on dong burnouts..lol. Mine is shot, got a pic of that too. I was shifting about 12,500.. sometimes i would run slower because i got all excited, like a virgin in a whore house with a pocket full of $100s, and hit the limiter.. BUT OH WELL!!! I can't wait to go back, Oh and Robert... once i had her around 12 o'clock... thought she was going over.. but let her down and still ran a 11.46. I tried to launch around 6500 and slip the clutch, it was ok.. I did once not do a burnout, and kinda just hit it like i would a stop sign take off.. NO WAY!!!! the ass kicked out and well for 10 feet i soiled myself i think. I was thinking, "$14,100 and i am going to lay her down..." but i didnt and still ran a 14.12 at 138.37 mph..lol:evilgrin:

I never do burnouts...a big waste of money unless you are running drag tires and 30 years ago when I did do burnouts on my little 400 Hawk, I fell in the "wet" zone when I hit the front brake to stop her... many guys fall doing burnouts... I ran a 14.21 on that bike before I put a cam in but never went back to the strip...it was easily in the low 13s after...probably the 12s... and my friend had an RD400 in the mid 11s...
The coolest thing I saw back in those days was Pee Wee Gleason on a CBX running 6 into 6 exhaust...LOUD...and running 9s...... nearly 30 years ago!!!
For shifting try to shift where the bike will drop to just below peak torque RPM (around 8K) on each shift...torque gets acceleration...not HP... so you may want to experiment with shifting 10.5-11.5K...pay attention to the RPM after the shift and adjust your shift RPM accordingly so you land in that 8K torque sweet spot in the next gear...and ride the torque through the peak zone that ends around 10.5K.
Once you figure out your shift sweet spot, set your shift light to 200-400 RPM below that shift point, and then when you see the light...SHIFT...your delayed reaction to the light should put you close to your desired shift timing.
Oh, and since your bike is stock, your peak HP is way below 12.5K...so you're going way too high in the RPM range for max speed at the traps.

Oh and another thing, I ran against the 2001 RVT RC51... SLOW AS ASS!!!!! i mean it was a nice bike, but damn.. the thing would have lost to my Kia with me spraying.. (but i tihnk it was the rider lol). Bike only had just over 6000 miles on it.. And Dan, i have about one month's worth of riding, and just over 3300 miles on her.. I started to "Break" her in around 250-300 miles adn took her to shut down in the first few gears after the first oil change (600 miles).

Just over 3300.. and only like 7 came from the track last night i think i ran like 23 times or something.. Dude, they say there is a break in period.. but like i said around 250 miles i started getting on the bike.. and about 750 i start red-lining it in the lower gears.. (few days ago i had it up over 180mph.. not that i condone this type of behavior on the straight, flat, backroads that have open fields on both sides with no houses).. but i am still a guy and have to see what happens when i open up the power of a honda ...lol:eek:

You do realize that there's absolutely no point in smoking the rear tire, right?
All you're doing is throwing your money down the drain... go around the waterpit.
Smoking the tire is only needed with drag radials or real slicks (and even then, most people go overboard). Pointless with run-of-the-mill radial tires.

If you are tucking, you should not feel the wind too bad at 110 (considering you are traveling 110!). Check all your farings are secured properly.

Interesting...what did the RPMs drop to when shifting at 11K... the point of my post was to search for that torque sweet spot...indeed if it dropped too far you would lose torque...
You improved your times...that's the goal...good for you man!
