Well, got the bad news from a buddy of mine yesterday. He just changed tires on his blue/yellow 06 1000RR, went out to fill the tank before bed (10:30pm). Headed to the gas station, a car pulls out of the parking lot, then crossed into his lane.

He hit the brakes to avoid the car (remember, new tires) and the bike just tucked out from under himself. Bike slid 15 feet with his leg under the bike, thank god he had his leather pants and race boots on. So there he is in the middle of the road, bike on the leg, at night. Oh yeah, the car took off and didn't even stop to help or see if he was ok.

Thankfully he got the bike off himself by himself without getting ran over by another car. His leg was a little sore and it saved a lot of damage on the bike. Ended up scraping the mirror, clutch cover, bent rear brake lever, and broke a piece off the upper. $550 estimate with a $250 insurance deductible. Side fair and tail section had zero damage.

All of us except that riding is a gamble, you risk going down everytime you throw your leg over the bike. What pisses me off is that we have to ride on the same streets as scum bags who cause the accidents, but precede to drive away with no regard for the person who just went down.

Be careful brothers! Just needed to vent.

Glad to hear your friend is ok! Thank God he was wearing his gear. So many people don't in those kinds of times. Like, "I'm just going to the corner store, nothing will happen." Just a reminder to all that you should always wear your gear, no matter what. Your putting your life in the hands of "car people".

I feel yur pain.
=)
been there but the lady peeled off cuz i threw my helmet at her car. =) and was going to start kicking the **** out of her car. =) I learned a very important lesson. (MUST WEAR GEAR!!!) Had my helmet and a nice pair of gloves with carbon fiber.<===saved my hands from road rash.
I wasnt even going that fast..was going with traffic like about 40..i slowed down enough that by the time i went down i was prob doing 20 mph
My cloths burned right off.
Along with some skin i left behind.
=) i healed very well.
and learned a valuable lesson.
#1 Rideing gear is a must...no matter how hot it is.
My bike was totaled in my eyes and i sold it to some guy for $2900.
i knew i could have fixed it for about 1500 back looking stock.
BUT I WANTED MY REPSOL...WOOT

Sorry to hear that but glad he's ok. Yeah, accidents happen and we all take risks. One of the risks is knowing that a$$hole drivers are out there. And if things like cell phone drivers weren't danger enough...I've seen people READING THE NEWSPAPER while driving!!

And yes, ALWAYS wear your gear. I went down within 2 months of getting my license. It was summer time in LA...in the 90's. I was thinking of riding without my armored jacket because of the heat but at the last minute decided I should wear it. I took off and within 5 minutes I went down (gravel in the road around a sharp turn). My helmet saved my head, and my jacket saved my shoulder, elbow, and skin!

I also realize I need to practice my braking and swerving maneuvers more regularly...just in case!

I have to agree. I have a bad habit of not wearing amor during the day. I like the feel of riding with a tshirt and a pair of jeans. The only thing I never ride without is my full face and leather gloves.
Hope your buddy feels better.
