Who thinks their job is pointless but they just go back to pay the bills and get the retirement???? I sit around doing work that is boring, hard to believe from a cop but its true. Ive done it all but I get treated like any other Sergeant. Even though I have 18+ years in.. Now I'm stuck. I dont get to work wioth the people I like I get moved around just like everyone else and I do way more than my job description for no reward.. I could go on but I sure hope that when I retire I can find somthing that has meaning. Sad isnt it.
Sorry just had to vent ... same stupid crap after 18 years and they wonder why people leave, and they dont even care they sit behind the desk and say good for them , we want them to do better fot them selves but what it sounds like is they place no value on thier employees:mad:

Man I hate to hear that you're unhappy. You've been there 18 years, so there's got to be something you like about it. Hopefully you're getting close to the retirement point...
I think every company has a bit of what you're talking about - there's always going to be a manager that makes a decision that adversely affects the people under him/her and it will ineviteable piss off those people. The trick is becoming that manager so you're the one making those decisions!
I must admit I've got it pretty good at work. I get paid to draw for a living (architect). Everyone's pretty happy as the building industry is (and has been) booming and we're all making a lot of money. We're beginning to see the market slow down, but have been pushing hard lately to become "global" so the US economy can't kill us when it slows down.
Look on the bright side - you've got a shiny new Repsol to calm your nerves when you need a little time alone.....

TX is right Thrasher, it's pretty much the same everywhere. If work was fun they would call it a hobby and charge you to do it. You should take pride in being a public servant, it's a noble profession. I work for NASA, which is a very interesting job. Sometimes I loose track of what the agency is doing getting caught up in the boring details of my job. When I stand back and look at the big picture I feel pride in the end result.

Well i dont like cops very much...but you cant be so bad since your on this forum :)
Hope my misery helps you feel better.
Well my career is going to ****. i go to an office where i am not making any money anymore due to the change in the market.
I am a mortgage broker and am a lil worried.
I am a single father..i have custody of my 2 first kids.
Not to mention my 2 houses i have to pay every month.
Well you should be glad you have a reliable pay check and all you have to worry about is being bored.
I worry about drowning in bills.
Ive been in denial. But am awake now and am looking for other options of making money.

Mega,
I had a buddy that went through the same thing a few years ago. He was a mortgage broker, making good money out near your neck of the woods. Build a beautiful house, got married, had a baby boy, all in about a year's time. The market was tough, and he decided to leave that job and do something totally different. Started working at a local Honda/Yamaha shop. Not making the kind of money he's used to, but they seem to be doing well.
I often dream of working a job in the motorcycle industry, but I have no training or knowledge to do so. Just what I've learned riding for the past few decades.
I'm thankful that I have a boring job that pays well for my area and has the best medical benefits on the planet. I have a pension growing with this company and though I aspire to do something else, I realize that I will probably end my days working for the same company as I do now.
But what can I say, it allows me time with the family and a few things that make me happy to play with. Now if I can just get the Repsol fixed I think everything would be okay. :)

Hey Thrasher, I am in oceanside and could use your help this weekend if you want to work with some people. I need to serve my ex-wife papers from a judge saying that she needs to be in court next friday because I am taking custody of my son since she is a meth head.
You could ride your bike down and after satan has been served, we could go ride ortega highway in san juan capistrano.
My job is going to crap also. No doubt there are good and bad points to every job. I built racecars in my last job and it was awsome but didn't have any retirement or medical benefits. Now I work for energy suspension as an engineer and sit behind a desk drawing on cad programs. I would rather build racecars but my family needs Medical insurance. So I am stuck there with you Bro.
I do thank you for what you do even if it is boring to you. Long Beach is one heck of a place to be a cop.

Thanks guys, its a funny job I hate the way its run but love some of the people. The worst thing is the lack of trust and respect for people who have put in their time. I could go on but just dont feel like it right now.
Thanks for your comments.
Mega I hope you can find a better future
As far as oceanside I only see my family one day a week saturday so I cant come down I would sure like to help you out!

Yeah, the days of doing what I would like to do are over (wife, kid, mortgage). Now my career is on damage control (still going to college at 30). But hey, I had a blast in my 20s.

Where in Florida are you moving to? At least here if you have a job you don't like or find rewarding, every weekend and every afternoon when you leave work it feels like you are on vacation.
... knowing which resorts are easy to sneak into for a nice swim is helpful too! ;-)

Eh, you get fair warning for the hurricanes and the rain I can deal with because it usually doesn't last too long. I'm originally from Seattle and I HATE the rain there because it just drizzles on and on and on for days or weeks at a time. And then when it's not raining it is still cloudy. Poop on that.

You can't look at it that way... just that it's put on hold for a little while. My wife asked me a few days ago when I want to start a family - looks like we're fixing to join the ranks.
I am fixing to completely restructure the way I live my life - been a DINC (dual income - no children) for 8 years now. Within 18 months or so I exect to be single income with a child. Thankfully the promotion I got last year will make it possible to do so without giving up everything.
The days of buying a Repsol on a spur-of-the-moment decision are over for a while. Though I'll gladly trade it all in a heartbeat if that's what it takes.
And I feel you on the college thing - I started in 1995 and graduated with a 4 year degree in 2003!! :D

Kids do hamper alot of things, but they are still great. I should now I have 3 boys. I do accounting for a builder and while I am not a huge fan of accounting, the building end of it keeps it interesting. I also am a single income household, but to bring in extra cash, I started a landscaping business on the side. It has worked out quite well, and clear 4k to 6k a month. It averages to be about 100/per hour. I would like more free time, but it is worth it to have the wife at home with the kids for another year or two. I did manage to ride the bike last week and she now has 68 miles on her, sad thing is, After I bought the bike in March, turned around and bought a BMW at a great deal, and have only managed to use a half a tank of gas in it as well. Mainly use the wifes Tahoe to carry everone around. My oldest is 7 and youngest is 2, so a few more years and there will be alot more free time. Although the business is doing so well, I don't think I could quit even after the wifey goes back to work.

Well, got the promotion today that I have been waiting for. Let's put it this way, I made decent money before the promotion and my new salary is 50% higher, plus a 10-15% year end bonus. Life is definitely better now.

That's GREAT news! Congratulations...
My promotion in January was accompanied by a 44% raise, plus roughly 15% to 25% in yearly bonuses, distributed quarterly. Without that, my wife staying home in the near future to raise our children would've been extremely difficult to manage.
Congrats again - that's somewhat life-changing news. Now just be smart and invest a chunk of it every month so you can retire early... :D

Hey guys I'm 29 and JUST graduated with my BA. Even though I did it relatively late in life, it feels really good to finish. When I decided to go back to school I left a job that had I stayed I'd be making six-figures right now. But life is about being happy, and in my opinion helping others too.
We all may not have the careers we want at the moment but as long as we are alive we can have hope and take action to change our circumstances. Hell I'm an artist of sorts and I'm about to be working a 9-5 not knowing how I'm gonna get out of that and into what I really wanna do but its ok. We do what we gotta do sometimes....just dont give up on your dreams!! :)
