OK - I'm going to sound like an old man here :o , but here goes: has anyone considered, or actually purchased, aftermarket seats for a sport bike?

The new bikes are definitely not made for long distance riding. Though I don't do a lot of it, it definitely happens once in a while.

Been looking at the following:

Corbin - http://www.corbin.com/honda/h10rrf.shtml

Sargent - http://www.sargentcycle.com/howscbr1000rr.htm

The Sargents look better, but they don't offer a seat for the passenger, only a seat cover. They do offer "custom" seat services, but I haven't priced it out yet. And the passenger seat is more of a concern than mine - the missus wasn't happy with the bruises she got on our ride this weekend (no comments!).

I have a solo seat cowl for when she's not on the bike, so I really don't care if the passenger seat looks goofy. The only time it'll be on the bike is when it's covered up by a cute little butt, taking all attention away from the seat.

I've heard in the past that aftermarket seats develop a memory of your butt, making it a bit awkward when it comes time to slip off the seat in the twisties.

Anyone have anything to offer on the topic?

Yes, I have the corbin rider and passanger seat on my 05 Repsol. Have riden from my home in MI to KY, TN, NC, WV, and NY (not all in one trip). Would not have done these rides with the stock seat.

The pass. seat I put on only when the wife rides with me. It is a big improvement of the stock also.

I have been thinking of the seat issue myself, I would go with the sargent one if it was me definetly has a better look. My friend has an apolstry shop and i think i might make a custom one with a design on the seat. will post pics when i get it done

+1, have an apolstry shop remove the skin, apply a gel foam, then recover. I guy here in town does it for around $60-75, which is a lot cheaper than either of those aftermarket seats.

Buddy had the Sargent and I didn't like it, it was too sculpted and minimized the ability to move around in the seat.

Well, squidracer just informed me that he ordered the Corbin's for his Repsol... I'll wait and see what they're like when he gets them installed.

He can be my guinnea pig! :D :p
