So the used Repsol I bought about a month ago is finally getting all new parts today (stainless steel braided brake lines, Pirelli Diablo Corsa III, brake pads front and rear, 520 chain/sprocket conversion, radiator flushed replaced with water wetter) so I can take her to Mid-Ohio next Sat.
I can't wait to see how she does on the track compared to my 954. I took my 954 out yesterday. For the first time it actually felt like an old bulky oil tanker compared to the Repsol. :D I think I'm finally ready to sell it. lol.
Anyone else going to Mid Ohio on Aug. 22nd?

I used to have a 954 and thought the same thing when I got my 09. I never took my 954 to a track, but its definately a brick compared to just about every other bike I've ridden. You really have to move your weight around to get it to do what you want it to do. Great bike though. On the 09, its just a flick of the handlebars and I'm practically in full lean. Its awesome

Yes, exactly. When I got the 954 back in 2004 I was coming off a 900RR and I had the same feeling. The 954 was so nimble and light compared to the 900RR. Now my 954 is the old dinosaur.

Well, the track day was ok but overall pretty crappy.
Things that were bad:
1) rain. it started pourting at 3pm right when we got there and didn't stop until about 4:30, The temperature dropped to about 62 degrees and was cloudy. They took a blower out on the track but it never was fully dry.
2) New tires weren't balanced
the ho-dunk motorcycle shop I went too must not have balanced my tires.
I got all the work done and didn't ride it until I got to the track. I went out on the first lap at a slow speed and I could feel some wobble. absolutely horrible.
Things that were good:
1) couple good laps: The pavement finally started to dry up around 7:30pm and I got some good hot laps in until about 8:15.
2) good lap times: Even with all these terrible conditions I ran the same time with the Repsol as I did with the 954 the last time I went. I can't wait to go with the Repsol on a nice sunny day with balanced tires and see how well it does.
They didn't have any professional photographers at this event but I'll post up some of the pics I got.

Yeah Rain on a track day would be the pits, hope you go back and abuse them about the balancing issue.

haaaa, yeah, that is actually not part of the track, it's just where you pull off the pits back to the paddock. She was still pretty close. lol.

well.... I wouldn't exactly call it a lap timer.. more like my g/f timing me with my iphone. lol. I'm actually looking into getting a lap timer tho. It seems like it would be useful.
The main point is it felt really good compared to my old bike even with rain and unbalanced tires. I'm loving the Repsol. :D

Lol, yeah, I figured that no insane track designer would make a turn like that...I figured it was either coming out of pit or going into.
Sounds like you had a good time though, I am still undecided if I will ever take the Rep on the track or not. :)

You should definitely take her to the track!
I called the motorcycle shop that installed my tires and they said that the wheels were balanced when they put them on.
They left the same weights on there. In all my days of riding motorcycles I don't think I've ever seen them put on new tires and NOT change the weights out.....
It seems like the chances of them actually being balanced would be like winning the lottery... Does anyone know if this place if full of it?

You're 100% right. Why would you balance a tire with weights already on? You're balancing an off balanced (because no two tires are spot on identical, and then spot on mounted with said weight balance falling in exact same spot on the tire) rim if you did. Go watch a reputable tire shop (or friend, whatever) and the very first thing they do is remove the old weights. You then put it on the balancer and then go from there.

That's what I thought.... The shop I regularly go to unfortunately went out of business, he was the only guy I trusted.
I called the place that put on the tires and they said that I could bring it back and they would double check them.... Should I even trust these guys or just pay another shop to balance them??
What a pain in the butt over something so freaking simple!!

If you've got the rear stand and a 22mm socket, just take the rear off and go to another shop. You'll save a little on labor that way. It's $30-40 to mount and balance. Balancing alone should be at most 1/2.

Well, I ended up taking it back to the shop and they fixed it for free. Took both wheels off and balanced them. This is after I paid them $90 for them to do it the first time but they didn't.....
The sad part is the dude just lied to my face when I called and said they were balanced and he remembers b/c he balanced them himself. Then after it was done he said the back wheel was off just a lil bit b/c of some spacer issue...?This was a total lie b/c I asked the kid that actually worked on the bike and he said that both of them were way off but they were good now. Replaced all the weights on front and rear.
What a joke of a shop.....never going there again obviously...
