A fireblade is what the cbr 900 - 1000 is called in Europe, here they just called it the cbr 900. The didn't want to have the same problem they did with the hurricane.

Yeah, all the non-us models are labeled with the "Fireblade" moniker. He's a pic of the 05 Euro model which has "Fireblade" instead of the U.S. "Racing". :)

Seems the Americans want to be different from the rest of the world with everything.......guess still being on the imperial system wasnt enough.....they also prefere "racing" over "fireblade"....go figure!!

I must admit, I was unaware of that minor naming difference...thought they were all Fireblades world round! :confused2:

Close, ...........there is a medievil reference to a "sword of fire" that that was also known as fireblade, but that was not Honda's angle.......they were trying to follow the lightning theme........to quote:

" In the bike's early development, the name FIREBLADE came along, through a mis-translation from French to English for the Japanese word for lightning. It became the adopted internal name for the project's development, but all Honda inline-engined sport motorcycles of the time were labelled CBR, followed by a number approximately equal to the engine's capacity in CC. However, Baba-san had said that as the project came to launch, the internal name was chosen as the bike's marketing name so as not to emphasise the first Fireblade's 893 cc engine displacement, because at that time potential customers not accustomed to the new concept of lighter and agile superbikes would not perceive a motorbike of less than 1000 cc as a top performer."

Can any french memebers add any light to this?

I know, Fire Blade = Feu pale, and lightning = Foudre, but i still don't see how they got Fireblade........

Sounds a lot like the Toyota Kluger sold here in OZ - was meant to be "Kruger" - after the Kruger Wildlife park in Africa - how can transalation be so much of a problem.

The game was an afterthought.....

Whoa killer!! We "Yanks" don't want to be different. I would much rather have the CBR Fireblade logo on instead of the "racing" crap.

It's known as a Fireblade and each bike should display it. I wonder if a Yank can find the Fireblade logo vs. the one we presently have. :confused2:

I'll have to look in to that......;)

Well while your out getting all those CBR's rebadged, maybe you can do something about getting the yanks on the metric system and all your thread sizes changed to BSP...wouldn't certainly make my life easier! :D
