Well I was coming home from work on Monday, I came around the corner and a guy cut right into me and sent me to the curb and side walk. I was sliding backwards looking over my shoulder watching my beloved flip and crumble.

It came to a sudden stop when it slammed into the median in cross traffic.

I have rash on my fore arm, right knee and ankle. I tore a ligament in my right knee as it slammed into the curb on the 90 degree cut from side walk to pavement.

I was wearing blue jeans that held up very well during the slide, along with a frank Thomas jacket and gloves that are ripped to shreds but saved my back shoulders and hands from looking like hamburger.

Here are some pics. I will get better ones during the day so you can see the total carnage.

The rear frame that holds the tail section is bent. I can’t see any damage dome to any other part of the frame so I hope the insurance doesn't total it.

I thank god every day that I am still here. I have full coverage so I am not really worried about the bike any more.

I had lockhart phillip frame sliders but they did no good when the bike was flipping and bashing against a concrete median. one slider was worn down pretty well and the other one bent. In the pictures you can see the laft side slider that is bent, the right one was worn down about an inch and a half.

the swing arm is un-touched along with the front forks. the rims, breaks and tires are perfect. the main frame itself is not scratched either.

So did the jackass who cut you off stop to see if you were ok? If so, did he get a ticket and his insurance going to cover the bike?

First off - glad to see you escaped with minor injuries. A co-worker of mine was killed on his bike last week when a car pulled out in front of him. He t-boned the car, not wearing a helmet.

Back to the quote above, if there was no contact made, he's SOL. The other driver's insurance is only liable if there was actual contact made, from what I've seen in the past.

Good friend of mine swerved to avoid a car coming into his lane, hit a curb and light pole, and trashed his truck pretty bad. Because there was no contact made, the insurance companies said the other driver was not at fault.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong - just stating what I've personally witnessed in the past.

well the cop found no fault. i was off the bike sliding on the concrete, the bike bounced up and tapped his right front fender so the cop said that our insurance will take care of our own vehicle.

the dude tried to shake my hand and appologize for what had happened after telling the cop that he saw me coming up behind him on the right so he decided to cut into me because he didn't want me to pass him in his lane. In california, lane sharing is legal but i wasn't going to lane share, i was going to stop behind him. He decided to slam on his brakes in front of me and swerve to the right to block me which gave me no choice but to go into the curb.

i was suprised that the cop didn't see that as a malicious act. he was pissed at the guy but decided that there was no fault.

i will never ride without my gear, i dont care how hot it is. the rash on my arm is actually a burn from sliding. the jacket held up well enough on the fore arm that it heated up enough to burn my skin instead of ripping apart and allowing my arm to get shreded. my gloves are trashed but i could imagine what my hands would have looked like without them. Heavy blue jeans are good for street but still aren't good enough. it is funny that i was thinking about wearing shorts that day.
i will be going with leather for my next jacket instead of the vinyl type street jacket.

I slide 150 feet with sandals, shorts, tshirt, and a helmet on. Needless to say, both legs, ass, back, and both arms were rashed up with some really bad spots. Skin regenerating is no joke, absolutely terrible in terms of pain when that skin and nerves begins to grow and repair itself. I would have rather broken some bones than have that rash. Sorry to hear about the no fault, that is some bull****! Contact or not, just some bull****.

That really sucks. I try my best to stay away from claiming anything via insurance companies. No matter if your at fault or not they will find away to get their money back from you. Its all a scam!
The cops here in New York have orders to stop all sport bikers and check papers. Our season just started and I already got pulled over 3 times. I guess it is good in away cause a lot of these kids drive with no paperwork, but boy its a pain to always be getting pulled over.
To bad your cop wasnt a rider he might have cut you a break.

well here is the damage report, $9800 worth of damage. The insurance wanted to total it but the guy at the shop is a repsol lover and said he would cut the cost of the labor which lowered it to $7800. The adjuster rides a bike also which gave me another break.

The repairs have started so I hope to have the bike back in a couple of weeks.

i just got it back on saturday and it looks good as new. the shop even threw in frame sliders, swing arm sliders and a fender eliminator kit.

i guess after $7072.00 they thought they could hook me up a little.

I will have pics in a few days.

They couldn't get the sticker kit for me though so I will be looking for that soon.

He has the '05 decal kit available, but I'm not sure about the '07. The two kits are different - don't buy the '05 kit expecting it to be the same and fit the '07!

I would send him an email or pm...

well if i didn't have bad luck then i would have no luck at all.

the bike was stolen last night.

i didn't even have it back for a week and it is gone...

it was stolen from my parking spot at my apartment complex last night. i lock it with a guard dog 1" cable lock. the dirt bag used a die grinder or power grinder to cut the cable.

the cops took the lock to run prints. the idiot thief was smoking a cigarette while cutting the lock and left his half smoked cigarette behind. where are you CSI las vegas when I need you.

oh well, the bike was a wreck repair anyway, this may be a blessing after all. I just hope the theif breaks his neck on it.

if anyone has an 07 repsol for sale for around $11,000 then I may be calling on you soon. the insurance company will probably screw me due to the repairs it went through.

HAHA, i just said that this morning also. my wife was suppose to go to ventura to see her mom and I was going to come up later after work. It is a 2 1/2 hour ride to ventura, so i said that maybe one of us could have been heading for disaster and the good lord stopped us.

i don't know, i just have to try and find the better side to this chaos. well the better side is that it was in an accident and now it is stolen so maybe the bike was going to be crappy.

thanks for all the love guys, I hope to be back on a repsol soon.

wow, just read this today. sorry about the double wamy. Insurance company's will "aalways" total your bike becuase there are no repair shops. The dealer will list every part possible to replace shich in actuality is stupid becuase they won't make any money when the insurance totals it. If you are lucky you can find a place to do plastic weld but that doesn't fix the scrapes. The insurance company will make more money totaling the bike becuase it will sell at an auction and be used as a track bike so the plastics and alot of it will be changed and won't matter about the scrapes. If they are going to change the wheels and the plastics then it's a bargain with a low milage motor. If I had to live in an apt I would park the bike in the living room or do without. One guy mentioned he rented a small storage space and kept it there during the week and only rode on the weekends.

That's a pretty broad statement... sure, a lot of bikes are totaled, but "always" is quite the stretch.

A close friend of mine, also a member here, is a service writer for a local Honda dealership and I hear all kinds of stories about wrecks. Sure, some get totaled, but most get fixed.

You do realize that motorcycle dealerships, like car dealerships, make most of their money off of the service and parts departments, right? If they priced themselves out of every repair job, they'd go out of business...
