So, Repsol is still at the shop, and I'm enjoying the time I have on the older blade. Decide to meet my wife and grandfather for dinner down in the city. I take the back way down getting in some good twisties on the way.

Park at the restaurant and have a great time visiting and eating some awesome steak. Then, as I make my way out to where my bike was parked, I see this:

1123

Looks like the bike sunk into the pavement so it it fell over. I do have to deal with this sort of thing in the summer time as we hit temperatures up above 110F on occasion, but not on a normal 90+ degree day. It was even overcast and not very sunny when I got there.

1124 1125

The small fall it took manage to do a lot of damage. Mirror, bar end, Pazzo lever, front bucket, left cowl, stator cover, maybe a few fairing stays. My helmet was hanging on the holder so it got all banged up, and it did damage to both seats, trunk hinge and the rear cowl.

1126

I know it's all cosmetic and I can still enjoy the ride, but I'm not looking forward to all the replacement costs. Looks like I'll be getting that new helmet that I wanted after all.

I always carry something to put under the stand when it gets hot, but usually not this time of year unless the pavement looks new. Looking around after I picked up the bike I could see many more areas where other bikes have sunk in the past. Hopefully not to the extent that my bike did. :(

When I was younger I would have got really pi$$ed having that happen to me.

Now I try to look at things from a different angle, You can't change the past only the now and the future. you can't say "If Only".

BK you are a top man, look at it this way, you are okay, the bike can be repaired and nobody else was injured.

I don't want to sound condescending, just a few words of wisdom....;)

That f*ckin sux ass man. One time I parked my bike in my friend's garage and we left for the day in her car. When we returned my bike was on its side. I think some kids were messin with it, broke the stock blinkers.

Also, something a little cooler to carry than a smashed soda can is a metal wall socket cover. I got one from the hardware store for like a buck. Its stronger than a crushed coke can and less bulky.

Dude, how thin do they pour the concrete in California? I've never even heard of that happening before this...

That does suck though - get the Repsol fixed and then the 900's goes down.

In lieu of a crushed coke can or some other southern engineered piece, you can buy a plastic kickstand puck from just about any motorcycle shop. I paid $3.49 for one that I keep in my trunk - comes in handy when parking on unpaved surfaces, though it sounds like it would be used more often in Cali.

Dude, how thin do they pour the concrete in California? I've never even heard of that happening before this...Concrete, I've never seen a concrete parking lot. Funny thing is, I was looking around for a parking spot as the place was packed. Thought about parking up on the sidewalk but the last time I did I got a warning message from the security guys.

I always carry something to put under my kickstand, but not usually this early in the year. It usually takes a real hot summer day to cause this type of sinkage.

Concrete, I've never seen a concrete parking lot.

Sheesh - come to Texas. Just about everything's concrete in Texas.

BK, at least you weren't just a pure dumb ass like I was, you parked your bike in good faith and bad circumstances prevailed.

I was taking my '05 down from the Pit Bull and, as I was releasing her from the stand, I noticed at the last second that the kickstand wasn't down, I tried like hell to hold it up but she dropped, right before my eyes.

Signal went through the left side mid-cowl, $239, broke the clutch lever, $30, the lower cowl is scratched, $289, they don't make the damn OEM decals anymore, they're gone when I replace the lower. All of this because I went brain-dead in my garage for 5 minutes.

On the positive side, I always try to look at it, I wasn't riding it, so I'm not damaged, at least the mirror didn't go through the front fairing, I had a handle on the back side, so the rear cowl was saved and the case didn't get touched. Still sucks whenever someones ride gets wrecked.

I dropped my F4i three times due to stupidity. #1 riding to class, shoelace got wrapped on the rearsets at a stop sign.. we all know how this ends. #2 really tired one morning pushing the bike into the garage and it just fell over in the driveway. #3 was when a dog ran in front of me, locked up the front wheel and cocked the handlebars. Went down, bike slid about 20 ft on the left side, broke the mirror, lever and trashed the left fairing.

Know your guys pain. To quote Forrest Gump "$hit happens" Sorry to see one go down though, BK.

Anyone have these decals, what color is the dark background?

Big Kahuna

It's the same dark blue as the originals, just not speckled. I think he makes a version with the background clear as well.

If it makes you feel any better, becuase i know it hurt me.... while i was standing in the lobby of the shop I work in while facing the window. I had not taken off my jacket yet just pulled up. I parked my repsol on the sidewalk in fron of a huge window. I just put my helemt down to help a customer would had been waiting and i see a flash of orange paint go upside down like in slow motion. A guy in a minivan backs over my bike and pins it up against a curb in between the curb and a concrete flower planter he drags my bike into the side of our building.....ya while i run to the door screaming and kicking his van finally he stops.....Woa I damn near snapped into the green hulk I have 2 estimates from 2 dealers one for $4,800 and one for $5,100 i have not rode in 2 weeks the insurance company has only offered $3,500 so far. Does anyone have advice for making them compromise? SO SAD only 3800 miles yikes i hate minivan drivers!!!!!! FOREVER>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

that sucks but it looks as if the bike is dead, you need to get one of those plastic things and put it in that big trunk.

A friend of mine was giving me a hard time about that the other day - I took pictures of my 929 on the rear stand... and the kickstand was down. Yuor incident is precisely why I leave it down...

Sucks that you dropped your bike though - I rolled mine out of the garage a year or so ago and the kickstand snagged something laying in the garage floor. It barely lifted the stand, enough that it looked like it was still down, but folded under when I leaned the bike over.

Best part is it was just close enough to my Mustang to scratch it as well on the way down...
