Went with a friend to follow him while he took his riding test to get his motorcycle license...
The lady came out to "inspect" the bike and told him she couldn't "pass" the bike and let him take the test until he fixed the headlight.
It took about 10 minutes of arguing with her before she finally gave in and let him take the test. Nothing we could say would make her believe that Honda would actually deliver the bike with a "broken" headlight. Regardless of the fact that the bright lights made the other headlight work...

The single low beam is one of the VERY FEW things that I don't like about my Repsol.
Makes me go :confused2:

I know it seems rude but I drive wiht the high beam on always.... I drive mostly daytime anyways but I wonder if I should get the blue HID because they are supposed to be less blinding to on-coming traffic at night and the poor guy driving in front of me. So doe anybody have a good source or suggestion for the bulb or the replacement lamp to change out the stock lamps? Thanks in advance HP>>>>>>>>>>:)

At no they are not easier on the eyes of on coming motorists, it's quite the contrary.

I have yet put my lights on dim....I rode during the day for the most part and leave them on bright so the cars can see me....:D

BK is right. THe HIDs are blinding to others. They annoy the crap out of anyone in front of you but light up the road great. The only draw back about HIDs, which is mostly in cars, when driving through heavy rain, snow or fog you can not see anything at all.

I grabbed some SilverStars bulbs from my local Walmart...they appear to be brighter than stock without the cost and trouble of installing HID bulb kits.

On our trip to Arkansas this past weekend, one of the guys with us just recently installed HID's on his Aprilia. When checking my mirrors to get a status on the group behind me, I immediately noticed him.
I never really perceived the lights as more offensive, per se, just more noticeable.
However, another friend I ride with insists on leaving his high beams on, no matter what. I make him ride in front of me at night because he blinds me with those damn things.
Alternatively, the friend with the HID's never turns his brights on - the regular low beam is enough to light up the road plenty well. And the light seems cleaner and more focused into the cone of vision. The edges of the array are very well defined.
Plus, what about all those Bimmers and such with the new HID lights? I don't really notice them being offensively bright?

Plus, what about all those Bimmers and such with the new HID lights? I don't really notice them being offensively bright?Well, those headlights are designed for the cars, not just retro fitted to a vehicle not inherently intended for such things.
I should clarify, the way they are adjusted on my buddy's Ducati 996 the lights aren't too bright, but my buddies' other bikes they are just too bright in my opinion for riding at night. I've ridden with them at night while most every car flashed their lights at them as we passed.
Personally, with the way the stator/rectifiers are blowing on these things, I wouldn't change a thing. I don't ride a lot a night but when I do, I find that the bike has enough light from the stock bulbs to get me were I need to go. Out here in the sticks, we don't have many street lights and most of the time the moon is all we have. You just need to slow your speed at night so as not to ride faster than what you can see.
Although it seems Honda is addressing the whole stator/rectifier thing by increase the warranty on those products, it also specifically states that adding any non-stock lighting will negated the extension.

Another reason why I didnt want to severely mod my headlights.:D

i also dont like only one light on it just does not look right.I decided to adjust my main beam down to to dip beam level so i can ride with both lights on now and they both look like dip beams fair enough i no longer have a high beam but i do very little night riding so alls good:)

Installing the HID kits into the older model bikes usually would cause problems with the rectifier. Havent had any issues so far with the 2005 and up. Most kits come with relay modules which will pull power directly from the battery and avoid blowing the rectifier.
If I remember correctly the stock bulbs pull 55watts of juice and the HID were rated at 35watts.

Well since I just recently had to take the california motorcycle license test I can tell you that is recommends you ride with your brights on durring the day as well as the night. Yea I though it to be weird at first but I suppose it kinda of makes sense but moreso durring the day not so much at night, expecially on a two lane highway!

Can you clarify the source that recommends high beams at night? I mean, is it in the manual or the actual test? Was it a question on the test and you found out the right answer was to have them on in the day? I always ride with HB's in the day but at night that sounds dangerous (blinding other drivers, and riders?)

I double 15k HID drivers at night, everynight. I make sure they know I am coming while white line'in, and just for good measure I rev a 10k rpm while passing their drivers window.

No problem yes it's in the booklet at the DMV. I think you can see the PDF booklet online. I completely agree with what your saying High beams durring the day not at night. I think the wording was something to the extent that you should ride with your high beams on all the time. I'll try to find it and clarify.

I found it it's on Page 20 under Headlights....of the motorcycle handbook from the California DMV. It's a pdf file so I was not able to upload it but you can simply go to the DMV website and look at it yourself.

Thanks for the info man....im gonna check that out. When I took the MSF training course they said high beams all day but not at night. That was a couple years ago. I wonder if this is a new dmv recommendation.

Ah yes...taxi drivers!! The LA traffic is certainly some of the worst in the country but I visited NY once and the whole street was yellow with taxis!!! Id prolly light em up with highs at night too if I was there.
