With all the talk about helmets, it seems we should have a single thread where everyone can post what they're wearing.
So post up what you're wearing. And give details (brand, model, and price if you want).

Wife (girlfriend then) bought my helmet when I bought my '05 CBR1000RR (Red and Black). She said she'd buy it if she picked it out. She picked out the Nicky Hayden Limited Laguna Helmet out of all the helmets in the world. Seemed destiny when I saw the '07 Repsol.

didnt like the way it fit. Was wanting to get something else, but the new
HJCs are really nice and fit my head great. No one around here sells Arai, or
Soumoy to try on. Overall, very impressed with this helmet so far. Great lid

Cool lid - it's definitely nice having a helmet you're proud to wear. My last helmet was fairly plain, no snazzy graphics. I was actually in the market for a new helmet when I bought the Repsol, so it made perfect sense to get what I did.
It's the first "cool", albeit the most expensive, helmet I've owned.

I looked at that Byrne lid myself......I was getting IT if I couldn't find the Hayden limited. I have a Shoei also, check my gallery, and it is MUCH quieter than the Arai. I just ordered a Suomy '05 Biaggi, I've been reading good things about them....curious to see how it is.

I new a new lid so I checked out this thread. I've been using my car helmet which is too heavy, fogs when not moving and I can't close the vents at night. I used to use Shoei I may end up with the Nicky Hayden Laguna Arai if I can find it, but...
Here's a few I like because of the graphics and/or price
Icon Mainfarme Skull Fusion (like graphics)
Bell Apex Ripper white (like price)
Shoei RF1000 Picotte 3 Orange TC-6 (graphics/color)
These are boring but sound light weight
Icon domain solid color (Carbon composite)
Dainese Airstreem (has blue tooth)
There is a full carbon one but can't find my magazine (forgot who makes it)
So can anybody comment on any of these from experience?

OK, just went to the local Hahm motorsports.
I was suprised the Icon fit well and was lighter then my car racing helmet.
Shoei was an excellent fit. I remember my old lid I upsized because of the squishy face and after it broke in it was loose. I'll stick with large. Lighter then the Icon and the quietest I tried on.
Arai was the lightest and has the under wrap stuff the prevents the helmet from lifting when in a more upright position. The only drawback is the Shoei is quieter.
They did not have the HJC full carbon that I was dyding to try on and see if it's significantly lighter then the rest. Does anyone know if it has the underwrap like the Arai?
Oh yeah, Nicky Hayden Laguna was a special edition and no longer available. Arai even had the old school Yamama special edition.

go racer........it seems like you live in orange county. there is a ducati dealer in garden grove or santa ana.....on senventeen st and newhope. between newhope and harbor blvd. the dealer has closed down it doors for good. leathers, boots, helmets, gloves, ducatis parts, just about everything from protection to posters.....the owner is selling everything for 70% off. 6 months ago i purchased a set of boot for $40 bucks ((agv)) bran spanking new. also a set of leather gloves....one vision, one goal alpine gloves retail $150...i got them for $45bucks. my cousin from orange county mentioned to me that the owner still has about $150k dlls in inventory. it would be a good idea to check it out......lots of arai helmets. once i get back from Utah...i will be making a business trip to Orance county and will check out that place again.

I went to check them out http://www.ducatipartsblowout.com/index.htm but they were bought out over three months ago by ducman. There are some helmets pretty cheap though. I saw Shoei and Suomy for about $250 but none that I was interested in. I did get a chance to try on the HJC carbon fiber and if it didn't squish my face it would have been hard to tell I was wearing it. Allthough it was a M and it took several tries to pry it off my head "lol". It's now hard to justify the price on the Arai Picote whithout seeing it in person. ...unless I went to the wrong unit #? Le Shark tre bien (helmet's made in France).
Went to the local shop and tried it on. It has all the goodies the Arai does (chin poilers, removable pads, excess chin strap holder, chin strap pads, etc) as quiet as the Shoei (quieter) and lighter then the HJC Carbon. If on'y it had a Hayden/Repsol paint scheme.
I like the Red/White dragon color scheme better but since I got a deal for $400 I can't complain about the orange/black. ;)

how would you compare that shark helmet to a shoei helmet?
I was thinking about getting a shark rsr2 duhamel helmet or a shoei rf1000.
just dont know which one would be better.

March 21st, 2008, 10:02 PM
Shoie is the Best street helmet, well I think it's their what X11 model? It's not the lightest but they make a different shell for each size, instead of for every two sizes. It isn't the most plush (like Arai) or the lightest (Shark RSR2 is "the" lightest) but it is the quietest. So it's a very good all around helmet.
Shark is up there with Arai in comfort allthough both only do two shell's for four sizes. It doesn't flow the most air but it does flow very well. I've never sweated in my Duhamal in summer and it has black paint. It is Carbon/Kevlar and has top safety ratings as well as Motogp approved. It's more of a race helmet but i'm very happy with my RSR2 on the street.
Something people don't know when they refer to a helmet brand being a certain shape. Check if they make different shapes in different models. I know Arai does.

Goracer has it about right. I havent had too much experience with Shoei except for tryin them on in
a shop and not liking them enough to spend $400+ on one. The Shark fits more like my HJCs Ive had.
It is softer inside then the HJC or the Shoei, and lighter. It doesnt look like it will flow that much air though.
I have no experience with Arai or the Shark RSR-2 (which I almost bought but the price is a little too steep for
me right now)as no dealer around here stocks them. Overall, right as soon as I put
the Shark on I really liked it. Light weight and comfortable and for half the price of a Shoei, you really cant beat it.
I read a lot of the reviews at webbikeworld (http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-helmets/motorcycle-helmets.htm) before buying this helmet, they really do a good job
of explaining the size and shapes of them.

Mine is an M (57) and fits snug like a Suomy L.
Ventilation is excelent also, I also find at high speed you can lift your head above up and the wind does not push your head arround, in fact you can turn your head very easy and not get effected, the only other helmet I found to work like that was the Shoei XR1000.
Chris The "Doctor" is also interested in one so I will check the dealler out 2 morrow for you guys, I must remind you that the dealler told me these where limited edition - and Chris mentions that he cant find them in the UK either.

they were actually helping me put my rear tire on my suzuki....the last accident i had where an old lady hit me from behind.
they do help me from time to time.....especially bleeding the brake lines....yeap !!!! pumping those brake levelers......believe me they do know the the controls pretty well. they rode some dirt bikes.....about two years ago...but my wife said that was enough for them...after she saw a little kid broke his back while we were riding the dirt bikes on Carnegie Canyon. i sold the 50cc and all their gear....except their helmets. once in a while i give them a ride on my repsol around the block....they miss riding some times.!!!
back to topic....helmets!!!

I bought the Haga replica just before I got the 05 600rr.
The shop owners wife cut me a deal at $355.
I just bought the all black rx7rr for my own christmas present.
Paid $400 for it.I also added the tear offs which I get through wakula racing.
Nice not having to deal with the bugs when riding.
