I'd like to hear opinions and suggestions on the best/worst rear wheel stands. There was one on the market last year that was truly a breeze to use...but can I find the ad in the mags, or remember the name??...NO! They used a slogan similar to "even a child can use it"...and it showed a 12 yr old kid putting a bike on the stand. Anyone remember this??
I ask for two reasons. One, I'm borderline clumsy, so I'm looking for the easiest to use, and two, my daughter will definitely appreciate learning the value of regular motorcycle maintenance. (just kidding...maybe.)
Thanks in advance,
regards to all,

I use PitBull stands for the front and back of the bike. Easy to adjust for different bike widths and easy to use. Same price as all the rest of the stands I have seen out there.

99% of the people I know with motorcycles use Pit Bull stands for routine maintenance.
But they are not "easy" to use if that's what you're looking for, though not "hard" to use either. One hand to hold the bike vertical and another to pivot the stand into place... unless you've got a helper, then it's a breeze.
You'll hear stories of guys putting their bike on the stand and then raising the kickstand (to look cool while they're working?)... only to drop the bike when they take it off the stand because they forgot to put the kickstand back down.
I use the PitBull (front and rear) and have never had a problem. They're sturdy as can be and work well for what they're intended to do.
You could always get a pneumatic lift like the bike shops use.... :D

i've seen those adds in the magazines....but never paid any attention to them. check out the motorcyclist magazine and cycle world....they always come out on those magz. im at work right now or else i would tell you the name.....if i remember i will look it up by tonight.
pit bull stands are very good but very expensive.

Ill prolly get a pit for a front stand this winter. But I have a cheap T-Rex

i use the black vortex rear stand. they can accomodate both spool mount or you can flip the hardware on the rear stand to make it a swing arm lift for the bikes that dont have rear spool screws.

i think all decent work stands are good as long as they do the job they are designed to do and works for the owner.

I have pitbulls and a harbor freight bike lift it is the only way to go you can pick up a set of pit bulls used for 150 bucks and a bike lift for about three. You can get the bike up high enough were you dont have to bend over to change the oil!

Pit Bull Forward Handle Rearstand without question.
Two Reasons:
First, MUCH easier and SAFER to use than a standard rear stand because you are mid bike while lifting, not behind. Virtually no chance of a mishap.
Second, The handle is out of the way when the bike is up and it leaves the back totally open and when you do work like removing the rear wheel, you will greatly appreciate not having the handle in the way. No comparison to the standard PB rear.
If you havent seen one, look in my pic gallery.

Yesterday, when I did the sprocket change and had to remove the rear wheel, it was easier because the cross support is just in front of the wheel center, where the cross support for a traditional rear stand is just behind it. Stand was not in the way at all of the wheel removal.

What's the difference between spooled and non-spooled and which type of stand fits the 2007 Repsol?

What's the difference between spooled and non-spooled and which type of stand fits the 2007 Repsol?
Spools are the little things that go on the swingarm.. like sliders.... It is best to life your bike on the spools...and not with the oothe end (rubber end)... better stability...no slip...

What's the difference between spooled and non-spooled and which type of stand fits the 2007 Repsol?
Spools install into the threaded hole in the side of the swing arm. Rear stands have a V-shaped receiver that the spool sits in. It's very stable.
Non-spooled rear stands use paddles that sit under the swingarm. They are less stable because the bike can slide on the paddles...

I have a Cycle Cat rearstand. I believe it is the one the OP referenced over a year ago. I lift/lower the bike from/to it's sidestand using just one hand...it's super easy and probably a 9 year old could do it. Too bad they're now out of business.

For the rear I agree with the forward Pit Bull, otherwise I like the Woodcraft alot but the new Vortex seems ok.

PB forward handle rear stand (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=duHkDtS9we0)
I would never get this... Too easy to Pucker up....Hold ur bike with one arm, and try and get the lift into the swingarm... I bet 50% of the people would drop their bike...
I say this stand is made for giants... so if your not a giant..DONT GET THIS STAND...

How do you put your bike on the stand without using one hand on each or having a friend help you? Unless you're using your feet to maneuver the stand so you can have both hands on the bike? :p
I wish I would've bought the stand with the arm pointed to the front, then when you're holding the bike by yourself, you're beside it, not behind it. Plus the arm is out of the way when you're removing the rear tire.
Though it might get in the way when doing oil changes...

With a regular stand you have the chance to hold the bike from the rear, you also have the opportunity to lean the bike against your body from the rear. Plus you have a clear view of where the spools are...Also you can have your kickstand down, just in case something happens and you drop it, the kickstand will be there.. In this one hand business, you have the put the kickstand up, balance the bike with one hand while you get the stand under the bike and try to get the lift into the spool... I am sure this is not full proof. Of course it is nice to have the lever in front of the bike. But ever since the creation of motorcycling we have used a normal stand, and it is done so in professional bike racing. The lever has never been in the way of removing my wheel.
I say this is one of those deviations that is trying to change things, but i dont think it will get very far... They should make hover pads, so the bike just hovers in the air, that is something that I would pay for.

I think you have a false sense of security with the kickstand. If the bike rolls forward as it leans to the left, the kickstand will fold up. You are also assuming it will fall to the left and not the right. If you have the front on a chock then the rear facing rear stand is best.
With the forward handle you do not have to step to the rear and you have a secure grip on the clip on.
