Statistic time:

181 members

83 have 10+ posts

45 have posted on the map. So most of the "regulars" have probably posted their pin.

Stirring the pot time:

I propose a RepsolForum ride!! Looking at the map, there's a nice spread over the eastern side of the country and a concentrated group in California... my current two suggestions are Arkansas or Deal's Gap. I know this somewhat excludes all the California members, but a decision has to be made regarding which side of the country to ride...

I've never ridden Deal's Gap, so I can't vouch for the area other than rumors and internet research. I know the small stretch is rumored to be one of the greatest roads in the country, but don't know if the area can provide multiple days worth of good riding.

Arkansas, I can vouch for. It's got plenty of roads to keep us occupied for 2 or 3 days of riding. Probably not quite the same rank as Deal's Gap, but still some great roads. See this Trip Report (http://www.repsolforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=614&referrerid=138) for more information on Arkansas.

My first suggestion would be an extended week-end trip. I'd say we try and spend three days at the destination. This would give plenty of time for riding and some good 'ole meet and greet war-story swapping time.

Answer the poll, provide some feedback. I'm completely willing to spearhead this and do a lot of the planning if there's a group large enough to make this a reality.

So come on people... post away. I want to hear everyone's thoughts, ideas, suggestions...

Well as far as Cali goes there is always Palomar Mountain down south or Hwy 9 and some real choice roads off 9 up in the Bay Area. Im down for Palomar.

It will be the first Saturday in August, every year. I'm planning to take the ride across country to Alabama one year, but probably not next year as I had hoped. I may be building a new home then and probably want to stick around for that. :)

Deals gap area has plenty of activity for multiple riding days. I have a book that covers many rides, with detailed maps, gas-up points, food etc., and covers a three state area, Ga, NC, Tn. Tough part is, the weather is always wacked-out this time of year in the mountains, beautiful one minute, downpour the next.

Texas Hill Country!

Not August though...115 degree rides are not all that fun!

Texas Hill Country!

Go look at the Member Map - south Texas would exclude 90% of the people that posted their pin on the map...

The two choices I provided were somewhat centrally located in an effort to make the drive somewhat reasonable for a majority of the members.

Cali is pretty much the exception...

That's good to know - I've thought about planning a Deal's Gap trip for my group of riding buddies, but never seriously looked into it...

I would imagine this will be a 2008 ride. By the time a destination is chosen, dates are set, deposits (yes, cash deposits for lodging) are paid, etc, the planning stage will take several months. Right now, that would put us in the middle of the winter... so it'll probably be a Spring 2008 ride.

There were more than 2 choices on the poll though, (Hell yes!! Somewhere else (explain) )

I'm pretty sure the poll was asking for MY reply, which would be MY choice. :confused2:

So in that case, it would be a Texas Hill Country ride in March/April or October/November. :sweet:

If you wanted to know if people wanted to ride where the other 90% of the members live, Deal's Gap or Arkansas then maybe those should have been the ONLY choices.:poke:

Wow - I figured this would generate a little more buzz. Expected some chatter from the California guys, but also hoped for some talk from the East Coast...

Well, I was trying to leave it open for other suggestions that can still satisfy as many people as possible...

I'd be down for a Texas RepsolForum member ride in the south Texas area!

HondaHoon could be the honorary Texas for the trip - I know he's a huge fan of the state!

I'd be up for a Deals Gap, or Arkansas trip. I've been to the Gap many times, and ridden the Arkansas Ozarks once - about 12-13 years ago. My Dad has heard that 'Push Mountain' (Ark) is a good ride, and I've been thinking about trying it out this year.

I can definitely vouch for the roads in East Tn and NC. As a matter of fact, the Cherohala Skyway in NC is my favorite - high speed sweepers! :D

Here's a pic of me on the Dragon, at 'Killboy Corner,' last month.

Hey TX....The book that I have is called, 'Motorcycle Adventures...In The Southern Appalachians'.

Check out their website, www.milestonepress.com There are two other editions also...they include different areas in the mountain region. Very detailed, soft cover, books that give all sorts of information, where to turn, fuel up, eat, sleep, points of interest.

Not enough Eastern I/P you say.
I say a Deals Gap ride for next year. I'm in for an Eastern ride of course, but not in August. Too damn hot. Spring time is the time to go.

I think for this to work you will have to organize several "regional" rides, such as one in CA, one in the Texas Hill Country (I'm with ya, Ross!), and one on the East Coast such as Deal's Gap. Just be aware that on the weekends Deal's Gap is a madhouse.

As for the Hill Country ride, just a reminder that there is the Bandera Breakfast Run (http://www.twistgrip.com/Bandera.html) from the Exxon station in Helotes (about two miles outside of 1604) every Sunday morning. PM me if you want more details...

Cheers! M2

Oh, and the Lone Star Motorcycle Museum (http://lonestarmotorcyclemuseum.com/) is a great stop in the Hill Country, not only a nice collection of bikes, but a great restaurant as well. The guy that runs it is a Aussie who moved to Texas years ago, but still races. Really friendly, fired up his Vincent Black Shadow for us during one of our visits...

Cheers! M2

You may be right, but I figured I would give it a whirl to see who's interested. That's part of the reason I started this now, with plans for it to be a Spring 2008 ride. Gives plenty of time to really hash out the details.

That's a great point. Definitely something to consider.

I'm guessing it never happened. Too bad. I would like to participate.

For future planning, I think that the way to do this is as follows - 2 rides, one centrally located (Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee), and 1 in CA. I'd suggest there be a separate planner/leader for each.

I'm in to help with the planning for a fall 08 trip, or a spring 09 trip.

I gave up on this thread because there's another thread where DavesRepsol is planning a Deal's Gap ride. Works for me - he gets to do all the planning! :D

I'm a little behind here and maybe a bit off; but here goes:

I would REALLY like to have a Texas meet-up if we can figure it out. Even if we just met somewhere between Austin/Dallas/Houston, had lunch and went back home.

These days, I'm don't have too much free time. I get my friends from Austin to meet me half-way just to get to see them occasionally.

If I had more time, I would meet-up for a Repsol ride anywhere!! Hopefully I'll get there one day.

Holy jumping ice ages old prehistoric threads Batman!

Aight, lets get a Cali run planned. I say we start it around Malibu, hit Ortega, Hells Kitchen and then end it on Palomar. Might be too many miles but gives a good run....

Orrrrrr....make it a coastal type cruise. Cruise PCH through Malibu, jam over to the 405, back to PCH around Long Beach and through Laguna Beach, jump on the 5, hit PCH around Oceanside through Del Mar, before heading back along the beaches in Pacific Beach. We end it at Mission Beach watching babes walk by in front of the roller coaster/little strip where the bikes park.

I would be pretty keen to meet up with you around the laguna beach area and continue riding south. Getting involved with Malibu makes the ride too long.
