Unscrew only the lower four plastic windscreen screws (be careful) so that the rubber “bolts” uncompress to the point that the Upper Cowl can be removed from the gauge/Upper Cowl support arm. Next, remove the rearview mirrors using a Torx T-25 key from the upper cowl.

Note: you do not need to unscrew the upper two plastic screws.

1519
Remove the four Upper Cowl plastic fasteners from the Upper Cowl by pushing in the center stem and remove all four fasteners from the underside of the Upper Cowl

1520
You should be able to pull the Upper Cowl forward somewhat, but it will still be secured by the turn-signal connectors and the gauge cluster connector. You can unhook the turn-signal connectors with a small flat-blade screwdriver. The hardest part will be having to “blindly” find and reach the gauge cluster connector. Unhooking it can be achieved by pressing on the release-tab on the underside of the connector boot.

1521
There is a third connector, the Sub-harness. This can also be removed after the previous three connectors have been unhooked. This cable has some slack in it so, it will give you room to move around and get it unhooked.

You can now take off the Upper Cowl off and set it aside as a unit, take note of the plastic dowel-pins that guide/support the Upper Cowl to the support arm.

1522
To remove the gauge cluster you have to remove the three Phillips-head screws that secure it to the gauge/Upper Cowl support arm.

Re-assembly is the reverse of the previous steps.

you know you can also just remove the mirrors n screen disconnect the speedo then undo the 2 bolts on the frame that hold the speedo stay and the stay and speedo comes out... lots faster.you dont even have the remove the screen if ur careful when removing the speedo...

well derrrrrrr its pretty obvious why .... did you arrive on the :shortbus:?

if you remove the gauge cluster when the local popo pick you up & ask you if you knew you were speeding you can reply.. well derrr noo... i dont have a speedo on this bike..

when they asked why you can answer

i removed it to keep the miles of the bike so when i sell it i can sell it with only legitimate 100miles on the clock :evilgrin::evilgrin:

found a Repsol face on egay and impulse purchased. the only thing I don't like is the redline it shouldn't be orange untill at least 10k and shouldn't be red unitl 11.5k. Can the tach needle be misaligned when removed? How hard is this to do?

I'm having mine done by www.ledmods.net which is local in SoCal but there is also a guy (browningbuck) on 1000rr.net that does the led colors and intigrates the Acumen in to the gauge. It's costing me $140 which I think is alot but most likely the shop is charging me removal/install fee. It's $60 for the tack #'s (white, yellow, orange and red), brighter warning red bulb, amber turn signals. for the two digital parts underneath ($40/ea) those will match the Acumen with red numbers and black backround. Oh I changed the colors becuase of the Repsol face and I wanted to match the gear indicator.

thanx dude this was so fast...im almost done and it took me less than 5 min...i used a power socket for the bolts on the frame since it is a long bolt...be careful and put a rag on ur fairings incase of a lil slip or bump. but i didnt take off the fairing ...just the mirrors ...shield and the the 2 bolts that hold the thingy to the frame.

^ yeah they give me hives.

No, my bike has been in the shop for going on three weeks now. A week and a half waiting for the throttle tube, finaly fed-x'd the HRC kit. This last wait is for a new chain since I had them install new sprockets. I could have reused it but there wasn't much life on it left. I don't have the bike stands otherwise I would have done most of the work myself. If it wasn't in there so long I would have bought the stands. Allthough I couldn't replace the clipon's myself and never realized I mounted the bank sensor wrong when I did the led relay, D'oh.
