View Full Version : G-Craft Rear Reservoir

I installed the G-Craft rear reservoir this afternoon. Installation was a snap, even with directions printed in Chinese!

Here are the BEFORE pics:

1557 1553

Again, the install was painless, and went as follows:

Remove passenger footpeg (to get to the stock reservoir bolt)
Remove heel guard for easy access to everything
Remove stock reservoir (one bolt) and drain brake fluid
Disconnect stock fluid line from back (not top) of the master cylinder
IMPORTANT: Remove the o-ring from the stock fluid line assembly and reuse it on the new G-Craft reservoir
Install G-Craft reservoir onto master cylinder
TEST FIT HEEL GUARD (SEE NOTE BELOW)
Fill G-Craft reservoir
Re-install passenger peg
Test brakes and bleed if required

HEEL GUARD NOTE: When I test fit the heel guard, it was rubbing hard against the side of the reservoir. I simply flattened out the heel guard and everything worked fine. You may or may not have the same problem, especially if you're using aftermarket rearsets.

This is what you get when you order the G-Craft reservoir:

1554

Here's a pic during the install:

1555

Here are the AFTER pics:

1556 1558 1559 1560 1561

Overall, I'm very pleased.

Next on the list is the removal of the three little brackets... which will really help make this small transformation complete.

TX,
Check to see if the reservoir rubs against the swingarm...I had to tilt mine a few mm to clear it.

I didn't bleed the brakes yet - tested them with the bike on the rear stand and they seemed fine. Rode to work this morning and have almost no rear brakes. So I'll bleed them tonight and everything should be back to normal.

The mod is purely aesthetic for me. The stock reservoir and fluid line are just ugly. The G-Craft reservoir hides nicely behind the heel guard, and if you have aftermarket rearsets, the G-Craft looks very nice completely exposed.

The fit and finish on the G-Craft is excellent.

TX,
Check to see if the reservoir rubs against the swingarm...I had to tilt mine a few mm to clear it.

I have 3/8" or so clearance between the reservoir and swing arm (look at the last photograph - it shows the clearnace nicely). The heel guard was a different story - had to flatten it out to clear the reservoir.

Has anyone tried a braided brake line with this mod? Would that help stiffen up the pedal a little? I wanna use RIZOMA rear sets any negatives with clearence??? I should ask has anyone tried the RIZOMA rear sets?

G-Craft, Galfer Lines, Vortex Rearsets....

Vortex have been the only ones that I am aware of that had "some" clearance problems. I had to use two washers to space the master cylinder bolts to get a bit more cearance and have no problems.

Do the galfer brake line, bleed the system, and you will be good to go.

Sorry- been a busy weekend. Putting a water pump, among many other things, on the Mustang.

I noticed your inspection tag mounted on the side of the subframe and was curios to see what you did with the license plate. I've got a FE kit and integrated turn signals waiting to be installed, but am always open for other trick ideas.

So, to make a long story short, just a pic showing the overall tail from the rear/side.

I just bought and installed the knock off G-craft. $50 shipped from Taiwan in 10 days.
I got it off flea bay.
Excellent quality and yes the little rubber thingi is by Brembo.
Instructions not necessary I think seeing it is held on by a single tiny screw.
Only complaint I had was that the red anodized finish looked more pink or magenta than red so I took the dremel wire wheeel to it and Voila.
They come in 'red', black or plain alu.
Along with this I put on SS lines from Galfer~~~~SAWEET.
got their new "GP style" front lines with red and blue anodized fittings with clear covers up front and orange out back.

I decided to go with the G-craft reservoir. Yesterday I received it, in blue color (from superbikesupply). It came with a black seal only, made by Brembo, and not the black and white seals, displayed on page 1, made by Honda. Although the brand should not matter, I wonder why I only received the black seal? :confused2:

Hi Rene,

I bled the brakes by placing an 8mm ring spanner over the bleed nipple, then attaching a tight fitting clear plastic tube over the nipple. The other end placed into a half full jar of old brake fluid. I made sure the reservoir was full, then as i pushed the brake lever down, i undid the bleed nipple allowing brake fluid to come out of the clear tube. As the lever neared the bottom of its travel, i closed the bleed nipple and slowly released the brake lever. Then repeated ensuring there was sufficient fluid in the reservoir. Not sure if i got a big air bubble while installing the G-craft reservoir, but i was very careful not to touch the lever at all. I used nearly half a bottle of fluid and got no air bubbles through the tube, but the brake still feels like it has a lot of travel and not very stiff. I'll take it for a road test tomorrow and see how it feels. Thanks for the quick reply.

Dave.

Try to pump a couple (7 or 8) of times with the brake pedal.
Hold it down and then open the nipple, close it when the pedal is down.
Repeat that until you have the right presure.
Don't wait to long between these steps so air can't travel back.

No use for test driving when it don't feel stiff/hard.
