OK guys, I installed the Smoke Clear Alternatives taillight and everythign was cool. I checked the blinkers and they are fine and so is the brake light but there is no running taillight! After the install I rode out with my buddy behind me and he was scared for me because he said he couldn't see me well unless I was braking or had a blinker on at night.

From what the instructions say, the taillight potrion of it literally just plugs in to the stock connector and thats how I installed it... I just don't get a light from the taillight unless I am braking. I am scared to ride at night now until I get this fixed. Any suggestions?

You can rule out the ground connection because the blinkers and brake light function properly.

The only other two possibilities I can think of right off the top of my head are the positive connection and the bulb(s) itself.

Did you check everything before you put the tail section back on the bike? If not, you may kick yourself in the ass now... :p

I would use a test light to check the positive connection. Test on both sides of the connector - first check the wire coming from the bike's harness to be sure you're actually getting power to the connector for the running light. Once you confirm that, connect the plug and test the back side of the connector. If it works, then something's wrong with the light itself...

Thanks guys, I don't know what the hell was wrong. I unplugged the connector and plugged it in again and my running taillight just started working. Everything is cool. The troubleshooting page was a big help though.

Sweet - glad you got it working without any major surgery required...

Can't say I was much help, Repsol47's response definitely made mine look elementary.

I have the clear alternatives and the male plug supplied is not as good a fit as the factory plug. You probably didn't have it pushed all the way home.

Them same words came from HH's missus last night............:D:D:D
