View Full Version : CW fender eliminator

I have been looking at different fender eliminators and have decided that I would like the plate to be pretty far back so I have been looking at the cw or the ss. I like the cw better but I'm not to fond of the little wheel on the bottom or having that little wheel touch my rear fender. For you guys that have this fender eliminator would it be easy to just dremel the little wheel off and bend the metal back a little increasing the angle of the plate? Just wondering if their is any more room back their to increase the angle because I have not seen or herd of anyone else doing this.
I'm not to concerned with the cops around here they usually aren't bothersome and the kit comes with a plate light as it is. That brings up another point would the light hit the plate very well with it bent further back?

I have one, but haven't installed it yet. The thing that comes to mind for me would be clearance between the shock reservoir and the plate.
I would go test fit mine and check the clearances (imagining if it were bent a little), but I took it apart to paint the mounting plate black. Waiting for the paint to dry before I reassemble it.

I have a CW fender eliminator with a different plate without the wheel thing (look in my gallery). I have an extra one I made for a freind but he sold his bike. Its for sale if you want one, including an LED plate light already installed.

I bent mine back just so I got a better angle for me, not the cops.
I didnt do it for the clearance issue.
I would have a buddy stand behind ya while you sit on the bike and see if it actually touches your hugger.
Im pretty sure mine touches..being 240lbs.
But if you only weigh $1.05...then its a pretty good chance you can dremel the wheel off and not worry about it.
It doesnt look like much....but I think I bent mine back far enough to notice a difference from a stock one.
I could have gone farther...but then Id be worried the "cops" would start noticing.

I will post pics of mine later today.
Im about the same weight 230-240ish, mine hits the hugger, starting to make
a little mark. Not too worried about it. I had heard about the problem with
the wheel hitting when I got it so I bent it back, but it still hits. Mainly not
to worried because I want to get a carbon one.
I think it can be easily fixed by bending the mount somewhere. I wouldnt cut
the wheel off, then if it does hit the bottom of the plate will hit the hugger
fubar it up even worse.
I would, and am going to, bend the lip on the plate portion of the bracket at
the swivel point. If you bend that back it will keep it from going down too
much.

I put a little aluminum strip on the rear fender so it doesn't rub on the plastic.

No, its identical to the one on my bike (Look at the pics in my gallery, you can see it pretty good there).
I used a different NON-hinged plate that angles the opposite way (Bottom out towards the back, not in towards the front), and the license plate is NOT over the hugger anymore as a result, so there is no need for a roller anymore and there is no contact with the hugger at all.

In one pic, you can see the LED plate light to the left of the license plate, the other pic is a very good close up of the FE showing the new angle of the plate.

I like the little LED thing you got going on there. I'm switching over to a CA integrated tail light, and want to switch over to the plate mount that doesn't have the little turn signal part.

I sell an alternitive kit for the CBR1000rr and the 600RR. It mounts to your pipe without any drilling. You can put it any were along the pipe can. forward or backward and it does not rub on the fender. It will fit on stock or aftermarket pipes. Plus it costs way less than the CW kit. Check it out I think you guys will like it. We also sell carbon fiber wind screens for the 1000rr.
Let me know if you have any questions.scott@speedtactics.com or the web www.speedtactics.com

I just receive my kit. Mine has a clear eurothane wheel. The OEM hugger is $15, so i'm not worried about replacing it. I don't think the wheel would do any harm anyhow. If it did leave a mark it could be buffed out. The whole purpose of the hinge relies on the wheel. I think you would fubar the hugger without it.
Does anyone else have the OEM exhaust version? Mine is missing the turn signals, uhg.

Hmmm, I may be tempted to try one of yours Scott. It does seem like a good option since I went with integrated signals. I wonder how my new LED plate would work with one of your kits.

Now, I wish I had the LTD version. I think mine is an old version becuase I don't see it on their site anymore. I only paid $75 for it. So must have been a clearance/disc price. Mine does not have a tag light but it's supposed to come with mini stalk turn signals. I called CW and they are sending me some (hopefully with mounting brackets). I saw a tag frame with LED turn signals on the bottom corners which may look better then the mini stalk but can't remember the website. I'll have to figure out a tag light so I don't get a ticket.
I was hoping some one had a good large or blown up pic of the same kit I had.

This isn't the exact one I found before but it's an alternative to the mini stalk blinkers. I think i'll call CW again and ask if I can buy thier new blinkers and tag light from the LTD kit seperately.

Post a pic of the blinkers you're talking about - I've got a CW FE waiting to be installed and do not plan to use the blinkers. If they're the same blinker's you're looking for, you can have these. Just pay for shipping.
Regarding the tag light, I plan to use these (http://www.1tail.com/sa/cart/detail.asp?pg=%7B769504C7-B95B-4817-915C-AFE4A17407B1%7D) (or something similar), not the goofy little stick-on light that comes with the CW FE kit.

ok, my kit has a hole for the tag light, so I will reuse the stock one (blub & wire). It is supposed to come with mini stalk blinkers but they were missing. I called and they are going to ship me a set but I will call again and see if I can get the new version the mounts under the tail instead. I may use a tag frame with blinkers and/or freg's flush mount LED's. But first I need to install this stupid thing...
My instructions suck. Does anybody have a pic of it mounted but with the tail off to see where the sides mount to?

Here is the version I have. You can barely see the mini bilnkers. The light seems like it will light behind the tag. WIll have to wait and see.

The new version is much nicer allthough I don't beleive it will work with a stock exhaust. The new version shines the light (LED?) directly to the face of the plate. It also has flush mount blinkers.

Wow thanks, i'll let you know in a few days or may just paypal you the ship $ anyhow. You must have the '07. I verified the difference in the kits. Apparently the 06-07' have a different subframe so they made a new kit. Those of us that have the '05 are stuck with the old kit. I spoke with the tech about using the new signals instead of the mini stalk and he offered me a different setup but I had to pay $25. The blinkers are flush mount and LED but I have no idea what they look like. He is going to make it so it mounts in the same hole as the mini stalk. The new ones use double sided tape, are not LED and replace the side muffler covers. I chose the ornage cover being afraid of getting tickets for the clear but I can't find anything illegal in CA VC for clear lenses as long as it blinks amber. The good thing is they have a plug in (forget what it's called) resisiter thing (to change blink rate) that replaces the OEM one (just swap them) and then there is no need to solder in resisitors. So now i'm debating calling them to change to a clear one, uhg.

Oh, this is another idea for the tag light. I tried a plug in LED but since it's a projector style it didn't add any light. It was also longer and I had to bend the little box which loosens the rivet.
So I could either do a frame with a LED bar on the top http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=002&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=120167914742&rd=1 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=002&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=120167914742&rd=1) I asked if a resistor was needed and they said no but I would imagine it still needs to be spliced in.
Or I could go with http://www.brm21.com/US/replacement.html which as you can see had a wedge bulb type plug. So you just plug that in place of the bulb, then plug the LED lamp in to that. The only problem I can think of is it will shine strait down and not towards the plate and i'm not sure if the light would be too bright.
I did use one of the LED projector bulbs for the front/center running light. It's an enormous difference. I'm debating whether to get an amber version though.

^ nope did't see it, thanks.
I ended up trying the LED bulb (for tag light). I didn't think it would work since it's a projector style and didn't seam bright in the garage but outside at night it's the perfect light. Not too bright but lights up the plate very well. I will try the wide pattern LED bulb when I get a chance. Hopefully it is shorter. If you guys need to bend the square surround for the bulb make sure you hold down the flat end with plyers by the rivet or the rivet will get loose and may break off.
I recelved the LED turn signals (F-series) and plug in relay from CW today (forgot pic of relay). The threaded stalk is too large for the hole that the mini lights go in to. So I can elarge the whole, mount on the rear part of the kit or drill a whole in the plastic and mount under or on the sides of the rear fairing. What do you guys think?

I would enlarge the stock mounting hole - don't drill holes in your plastic (if that's what you're really considering)!

^ thanks, looked in to that. The rear hole was allready enlarged (D'oh). So that's where I placed them. It worked out pretty good. I don't have my dig cam so I can only upload cell photos. The CW F-sieries LED's are intended for the front so even though they had plugs I had to cut them off. One side's wiring would have been too short anyhow. I used the old wiring and plug from the OEM blinkers (still need to solder). I liked hte other position better that's in the pic I posted above but that meant removing the kit to drill the holes. Oh, the LED's had plastic nuts with a flange that was way too large. I cut off the flange with a dremel rather then search for metal ones. Allthough I may replace them with the nylon locking metal ones if they get loose.
