Default 20,000 miles and then poof!

Stator/Rec blew during my trip to Laguna.

Thanks to Kevin at Hollister Honda for meeting me late Sunday night to bring me a battery after my bike died while looking for his shop. The battery helped get me home but I realized along the way that I had a much bigger problem. Nothing more terrifying than riding home for the last 100 miles late at night, looking for safe places to park your bike as it was trying to shut itself down. I man handled it back to the house where it died for the final time about 50 feet from my garage. The last tenth of a mile (my driveway) was all dirt and gravel. I had to continue to blimp the throttle in high revs to avoid the engine shutting down. The rear wheel was sliding all over hell and the echos through the valley at 1:30am probably didn't impress the few neighbors I have.

There was some talk about Honda acknowledging the problem and extending the warranty of the stator/rec. Anyone know what is going on with that?

I looked up some on-line dealers and a few have the part listed as "discontinued" with no other information regarding a replacement.

I have an 07 and my stator and rectifier blew at 11,000 miles. The 05's had the extended warrenty on this issue (07's are S.O.L). Just go to the dealer and they will be able to run it through your VIN. Good luck BK thats a $400 repair at least.

I received a letter from Honda Canada a couple of years ago that stated they were extending the warranty. I will look up the letter to see how long the warranty was extended when I get home from work.

I think the stator letter states a six year time line, so I should be within that. I wasn't really pissed at the bike, just a little disappointed. I remember telling my bike, "just get me home baby, I'll take care of you if you then, just get me home." The thing finally died literally at my doorstep, after a rough ride home. I was thankful that it got me home and now I need to get busy with my end of the bargain. Getting the thing running again.

I was pissed at myself cause I had a feeling the stator was bad and I kept riding and that what resulted in me blowing the rectifier. Could have been avoided if I wasnt so lazy.

I'm living this dream (nightmare?) with my "07" at the moment. Not fun trying to nurse a sick RR/R home with your pre-teen daughter on the back. Costly replacement here in Canada also. Just shy of $1000.00 to do the stator, reg/rec and battery. There's only 12,000 km's on my bike to boot! I've not riden it since the begining of June.

Hey BK, I seem to recall, no pun intended, a six year timeline on the stator recall. I'd hurry and look into it. I'm sure I still have my warranty extension letter if you need me to look it up for you.
