Clipons: Another item to scratch off my list from my long wish list of mods. I've always thought the OEM clipons were angled too far wide (think dirtbike bars) for riding on the street. So needless to say, I've wanted to do this mod for a while. I went with the Woodcraft because I've installed a set on my buddies bike and right away I knew the quality was solid. In addition the install was simple and price is fair. Anyway, on to the pics...

Looks clean. High quality components. Lots of adjustability.

Major cyber chub on the Arai lid!! Arai is by far my fav lid and the IOM ones are always on point. Congrats on getting the Woodcraft goodies too! Been looking at a few companies. Loved the ones on my 05. Had the 7* down angle. Felt more race ready to me. More natural.

Pardon me while I wash off the drool lol

Naw man, I got REAL chub! Lol...

First Ride Report - Arai Corsair X:

Helmet feels nice and a bit snug (size L) but I'm sure it will be good once it breaks in. Better and more secure fit than my last helmet (Shoei RF-1100) noticibly around the forehead and chin areas. Much quieter helmet than my previous helmet as well. Helmet breathes very well but only once all the vents are open (3-top, 1-mouth, 2-visor, 2-rear), too many in my opinion to be figgiting around with while riding so set it before you start riding and forget it. One thing I don't like about the Arai: What I like to do at stop lights is to crack the visor open just a smidge to help the helmet breathe even better. The Shoei did this easily and with just my left thumb. On the Arai you've literally got to pop the visor off the locking mechanism and lift the visor using at least two fingers, your thumb and pointer. That's all for now...

    Yoyodyne Slipper Clutch (after)

This was one of those big ticket mods that I always wanted to do but never got around to for a bunch of different reasons but mostly because I didn't have the extra cheddar. Anyway, initially my plan was to find a little oil leak from my clutch side crankcase and that was it. Then I thought, since I had been noticing a super slight clutch slippage at high RPM I might as well change out my clutch pack. And then I thought, shoot I might as well upgrade and do the mod. So that's how it all went down...

Haven't given it a proper test yet but I'll post back up when I do...

Also, gotta give props where they are due: It started when I realized Yoyodyne didn't have any instructions on the install and nothing on their website either so I searched for and found a very good write up from a guy who had done this install on his '06 way back in 2010. Probably saved me lots of time and effort following the instructions on his detailed and picture filled thread. It was from the 'other' website. And for future reference I'll put the link here...

Props brother!! Dying to know how you like it. Definitely a winter mod for me since I just put in new clutches.

Cool in kind of a weird way, lemme explain...

At first I thought something was wrong or that I had installed it incorrectly. Two reasons for this:

    1) a huge 'clunk' sound and feel the tranny would make on downshifts most noticibly from 3rd to 2nd and from 2nd to 1st gear

    2) a 'notch-like' feeling at initial clutch lever pull that feels weird or not normal

Well, turns out everything was installed correctly and I just needed to break-in my new clutch pack and get acquainted with my slipper:

    1) was a result of the clutch plates being soaked with oil (which I had done as to not install them completely dry) and

    2) is the springs and ball bearing slide thing-a-ma-jiggy (a.k.a. the 'slipper' mechanism) engaging properly

So, after running it for a couple 20-30 miles the hard clunk in the tranny went away (I think mostly due to all the oil flinging off the clutch plates and not acting so thick and heavy) and I'm getting used to the weird initial lever pull which I'm told is completely normal for ALL slipper clutches. The engine braking is completely different, much, much less than stock clutch basket and pressure plate. Upshifts feel super smooth and the bike pulls and tracks very nice out of every gear. Still not sure if I'm sold on it performance wise and I may never be as I don't race so I can't see fully utilizing the upgraded clutch. Sure looks trick through the CCC though. The gold anodized pressure plate and red anodized bolt heads look REAL good! Anyway, I may end up taking it off if I'm not satisfied with it after my first couple thousand miles. Let you all know...

    waialaeboy,
You still running the Yoyodyne clutch set up? Any new impressions related to it?
